I really fancy going to either of these two places. In particular, I like the Concarneau/Vannes area of France and the Rhein Valley around Boppard though we are flexible. I have never caravanned abroad before but have driven there many times. We have visited most areas in Britain and it's time for a change. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

In mid July we spent just over a week at Campingplatz Loreleyblick at St Goar-am-Rhein. It is about 12 miles south of Boppard and I can highly recommend it. The site extends for about 1 kilometre along the banks of the Rhine opposite the Lorley rock and is about half a mile from the centre of the village of St Goar. The toilet facilities are all brand new and kept absolutely spotless. Most of the staff speak English ana are very helpful. Although the office is supposed to close from mid-day to 2.00pm it was never closed when we were there. If you should go there try to get a pitch right on the river bank - it is amazing to watch all the boats going by. If you can not get one when you arrive, one will almost certainly become avaiable within a few days if you can be bothered to move pitch which we were able to do within 24 hours. It is not a quite site because of the continuous noise of the river traffic and the railway lines on each side of the river, plus the road alongside the site, but having said that it was not too obtrusive. In the time we spent there we only used the car twice for longer distance visits e.g. Koblenz, as it was easy to cycle everywhere along the riverside on excellent cycle tracks.

Hi Butler,

Try Baccarach, there is a lovely site by the river. Have a look on your search engine for "Cycle weekend on the Rhine" When we pitched we did not know about this special weekend, but the roads on both sides of the river are closed to all motor traffic for the whole weekend, and it is cycle paradise. That is of course if you cycle.

Bill
