Tomorrow is turf laying day with a tonne of soil requiring to be shifted from front to back of house. There are areas of lawn that will require re-seeding too around the perimeter of the turfed area. So I nipped out to buy some lawn seed. The self service checkout wouldn’t let me pay for the seed pack until an assistant had confirmed I was over 18 years. This wasn’t a security tag issue just a health and safety issue requirement. If it’s that potent I think I might try grinding some seeds and seeing what the effects might be. Probably not as good as mushrooms 🙈

My son is cultivating a meadow area in front of his house. He’s used yellow rattle which is a parasitic plant that seems to take the vigour out of the stronger grasses. Only mows once a year and removes the grass cuttings. He’s used yellow rattle cthen sows a mix of seeds “designed” for the soil type and area. Reckons it should take five years before the results mature. In the meantime he has posted notices on his front areas that it’s a meadow in progress intended to benefit wildlife and biodiversity. Not sure the neighbours see it that way🤭
 
I hate gardening, so I planted the rear side of my garden with wild flowers, great for 3 years then Brambles took over, great blackberries for two years, but now they have taken over. So cut back time. To get some ground cover flowers in again.
 
I have not got a single blade of grass in my garden! Just a couple of block paving patios and some raise flower beds along with some big pots containing some banana trees and some Canna lilies.
I simply cannot fathom people's fascination for a patch of green stuff that requires so much tedious and time consuming maintenance.
I would rather repose in a zero gravity chair, admiring a few flowers whilst sipping a glass of chilled white wine and listening to others heaving their innards out pushing a lawn mower up and down their patch of weeds and moss!
Good job we are all different isn't it?

Blimey, if I did that I would have an awful lot of paving! I have three patios as it is! We do have three lawns as well, and have plenty of time for quaffing chilled white whilst watching the sun drop over Dartmoor. I simply cannot fathom people’s fascination for an all concrete garden.

Up and dressed since 0600, preparing for delivery of top soil, then it’s moving it to the rear garden and start turf laying. What could be better on a nice early spring day. Dog will be picked up and spend a day in day care.

I’ve cut back in containers as when we are away our nearby family are all working so don’t want to impose too many watering duties on them.

Thank you Beachball but I’ve just been informed by the company that my top soil load hasn’t been received by the local delivery company. Should be here tomorrow which is no good as we are out. So looks like Friday. Knowing my luck it will be just as the weather breaks, but might save on the water meter.
 
My daughters new build house has the most eco unfriendly lawn laid by the developers.

It's grass turf but grown on a plastic mesh backing. The dog keeps digging up bits of plastic.

She's hoping to go for more hard landscaping as the dog is part badger.🙄

I think that the turf I have bought has had some sort of plastic mesh on it as I kept finding small sections a bit like “ mist netting”. So I spent time going over it to try and ensure none remained as the dog eats anything she can find. Worse than having a young child.
