We had a problem with lack of flow of water in the shower the other day and I established by timing the lenght of time required to fill a 10 litre can, that the pump was only putting out 7 litres per min of flow rate.
So off we toddled 35 miles to towsure at Halesowen. There I found a reich submersable pump 18 Ltr flow rate for £24-95 which I thought was a good deal.
On fitting the pump which is an easy job only needing a screw driver and pliers, I thought the flow was dissapointing. So again I put the can under the kitchen tap and got the stop watch out on my mobile phone. Sure enough we have only 4 Litres per min flow. So thinking it was my dopy wiring I reversed the polarity and that got no flow, so for once I did get brown in the right place. Just kidding, I am an electrician so I had noted where the old wires were and put the new back the same, but one has to try the obvious before stompping up and down!
So out came the phone and a call to Towsure. So the upshot is , today I have to do a 70 mile round trip to exchange the pump for another one.
Having done my homework on tinternet, I seem to be on the right track flow wise as 18-20 litres/min seems to be max standard for submersible dunk in the barrel pumps. But I wonder if Reich test theirs at ground level or at a water head height of 2.5 Mtrs where the showerhead lies in the van. I checked the pump at average height (sink level), so would expect a good rate of flow.
Has anyone had simlar problems or maybe can shed light on what the standard is for caravan pump flow testing?
