Removing Black Streaks

Hi, I have tried various methods to remove those stubborn black streaks, purpose made products and a few more un-conventional products. I have used T-Cut which works really well, because it's an abrasive product I rub very lightly and only on the actual streaks and it still removes the black marks effectivly. Does anyone else use T-Cut and what are your thoughts on using this product?

I use Autoglym Super resin polish which is less aggressive than T Cut. I follow this up with a coat of wax, like Collinite (not cheap but lasts for ages). This stops black streaks sticking to the van and the use of a good quality wash will wash them away.

I use mucoff bike cleaner,I mainly use it on my mountain bikes but it also cleans the streaks on the van.I just spray it on and leave for a minute and the streaks whipe offits available from Halfords I bought a new bottle last weekend for

As above try MER, neat as a polish and diluted as a wash. The paint on vans is only a couple of micron thick so beware any mildly abrasive cleaner.

Always used silky, never had a stain that it couldn't remove, no idea how much it is as it lasts for years.

I know this is going to sound daft but try MR SHEEN furniture polish. Someone on this forum told me to use it some time back and it realy works gets all the black marks out.

Isn't it time someone invented something that stops the black streak in the first place? Some kind of simple gutter to direct the rainwater away from the roof sidesor whatever.

Otherwise, Muc of and Fenwicks cleaner for me.

Hi All.I,ve heard that the black streaks are caused by air pollution settling on the van then running off when it rains,I wasn't fully convinced by this as I live on the west coast of Scotland, the air is clean here yet the van is regularly covered in black grimy lines I've found that a lot of the black streaks are caused by oil seeping out the sealants used to seal the joints on the caravans roof / sides and rooflights. I have started removing all the seamstrips and removing the old oil based mastik and resealing the van with Sikaseal 221 which is also widely used by car manufacturers as a windscreen sealant which has no oil in it and doe'snt "weep" like oil based sealants. I've nearly done all the van now and where I've resealed with Sikaflex the streaking has stopped.

I have some yellow strips which fit into the awning rail and do just that.

Hi, extreme, but if it works. This is ok if your van is out of warranty but mine is only 1 year old, it's just a shame caravan manufactures don't use this product when they build their vans and save on the frustrations of caravan owners trying to keep the black streaks at bay!

my old monza had roof gutters, these allowed the water to run off to the ground, rather than the "modern" drainage down the sides of the van, which my "state of the art" van as, along with its 30's braking system.

These areas are were i have dirty black streaks.

Dusty, we use awning beeding through the awning channel both sides and it helps the rain run along the beeding and down to the ground, it isnt perfect but i dont get an alfull lot of streaking at all now.

I use ordinary caravan shampoo at a more concentrate state spray on the streaks and then wash van as normal and it all comes off with the normal long handled brush.
