I`m totally new to caravanning, after upgrading from many a cold night in a trailer tent. I`ve bought a second hand A.B.I Marauder 400D (unladen weight 700kg, MPLTM 902kg)The Renault that I drive has a kerbweight of 1250kg, giving an 85% of 1062kg. The weight is obviously not a problem it`s just the 1.6 engine that concerns me most, will it be ok? I don`t really want to change the car if I don`t have to. Hopefully I`ll be able to have many a good holiday with my family with this outfit.

HI

BE CAREFUL WITH RENAULT TOW WEIGHTS.

I UNTIL RECENTLY HAD A SCENIC DCI BUT BLEW THE ENGINE UP TOWING MY CARAVAN. GOING BY RENAULTS TOWING WEIGHTS I WAS TOWING AT 92% HOWEVER I LATER FOUND OUT FROM THE CARAVAN CLUB THAT RENAULT GIVE FALSE INFORMATION AND I WAS TOWING WAY OVER 100%.

dOUBLE CHECK YOUR WEIGHTS, HAVING A CAR BLOW UP WHEN TOWING ISN'T FUN

I drove a Scenic X plate 1.6 16v rxe auto with LPG multipoint conversion, towing an ABI Dalesman 450CT (1997). Covering several subjects, the LPG made no difference to the towing ability of the car except for cost. Renault do provide towing figures based on driver only, so beware. Although the train seemed stable and the auto box brilliant, I have changed to a 2.0 16v auto Espace with the same LPG kit (Removed and refitted). I now have a stable comfortable train returning 16mpg when towing on gas @ 37p/l that is well within the towing guide of 85%. I certainly had no problem with the F4R engine or gearbox and providing you are happy to cruise on the motorway at a legal safe speed you should have no problems.

have had a renault scenic dci (1.9) and a friend with a 1600 petrol. the advice you are being given is correct BEWARE OF RENAULT DATA I think it must have been designed by the sales department.

I did however in my case prove to be a dam good car and i did 150k in it (not all at the time with the 4/40 coachman that i had at the time
