Repairs

I have just purchased a lunar Lexon 2004c
I have driven it on my first out to my friend in Hampshire .
Unfortunately I have done some damage to the back left hand corner, every repairer is say it’s a right off. Are there any caravan repair business that can at least look at it please. I’m not asking an immaculate repair but just to make it water tight
And advice would be most welcome
Regards chris

Sorry to hear of your accident. On a van that age panels will not be available other than via a breaker. But there are companies that specialises in caravan and Motorhome body repairs. Caravan Medic is one such company. They were featured a few years back in Practical Caravan. Search fir the article. Here’s their website.

You don't tell us the age of the van, but the rear panel ?ABS will need a specialist repair as a replacement is unlikely to be available. The awning rail is fitted in two sections usually so the rear half could be replaced provided the same profile is available, the rear marker light is fairly standard, and likely that the panel could be acceptably repaired. However the biggest cost will be labour. All in all we hope that you had taken insurance in which case their assessor will either authorise repairs or consider the van uneconomical to repair and sadly write it off. Sorry for your mishap as you must be gutted.

I think in their first post they mentioned it was a 2004 unless I misunderstood? Either way it is going to be a very expensive repair and they need to claim off the insurance. Hopefully it was insured?

A rear panel replacement should be available from Caravan Panels of Preston, but it will be costly as they are made to order. I doubt you will get the side panel except from a breakers, but it might repair, and the awning rail will also be a problem although the broken light should still be be available. I do not know what the caravan cost but I think the repair cost will be near or more than you paid. If I remember rightly just replacing the rear panel on ours cost about £2,000 about ten years ago.

You have substantial damage which will make the van uneconomical for an insurance company to consider paying for repairs and will write the van off as such.

If you can find someone, such as possibly Caravan Medic, who will undertake trying to repair it , it will cost a lot of money, but I have a feeling that you will struggle to find someone to take on the work.

The last time I was quoted for a rear panel it was £4,000
