Replacing a caravan door handle

I am replacing the main door handle . On the inside of the handle is a small red and green plastic cover. I believe that they have a screw beneath them. Does anyone know how to safely remove the plastic covers without damage.??
 
Use a pointed implement to gently ease the covers out, they have quite a deep edge to them.
It is almost impossible to cause no damage whatsoever, but you can minimise the damage by being careful.
