Replacing number plate lamp on old Sprite Muskateer

I've recently picked up a late 80's Sprite van that has a badly corroded number plate lamp that doesn't work.

I've looked for a replacement but can only find lamps that seem to require 2 wires, 1 to each terminal. This van has only one wire screwed to a terminal.

Does anyone have any advice where to get a suitable lamp?

Many thanks

Possibly another wire goes to one of the fixing screws of the lamp to act as the return. Every light has got to have a negative and a positive wire. Remove your numberplate light making sure that you don't let go of any wires attached to it. Let them go and they could be difficult to retrieve. If you find two wires, connect one to each terminal in a new lamp.

Thanks John,

I think this is where I'm struggling. I'd already done as you suggested and there really is just one wire. But of course the penny has just dropped - what if the second wire has already come out and disappeared. I guess the next question is how the heck to get it back!

Hi Andy, If you can't locate the missing wire, if you can find a way to either the left or right rear lights, you could just take a wire from the rear red light if it the positive thats missing. If it is the earth that is mising you could take a feed from that. You will have to find out which is missing.
