Can any one give us a hint on how to restore the shine to a GRP front panel on a 4 year old Geist? it belongs to our friends and they remarked how much duller their front panel looked compared to ours. We think the previous owners may have used it abroad a lot and it might be due to the sun? The decals are also faded down the sides. Would be helpful to know if there is any way to prevent it on our new Elddis.

A good Marine Fibre Glass Restorer such as Collinite should help restore the GRP panels on your friends caravan Lorrainejoyce.
After washing your own caravan use a high quality car polish such as Meguiars Step 2 followed by a good coat of Meguiars step 3 wax to seal the shine once or maybe twice a year

Hi, lorrainejoice, if your friend is't very good at DIY get somebody like tourershine to advise them, as getting the finish you expect takes an expert .

Be careful with T cut, if you go through to the fibre your on a continual downward spiral.
As Parksy has said, a good marine product and a good polish sealer will work wonders.

I'm not quite sure why these old threads are being revived, this topic is from June 2011
The advice remains the same- DO NOT USE CUTTING COMPOUNDS ON GRP PANELS OR CARAVAN PAINTWORK

A grp panel is made up of glass reinforced plastic with a gelcoat surface finish and a cutting compound will destroy the gelcoat finish over time resulting in a dull panel with no possibility of the shine being restored. Caravan paintwork is much thinner than automotive paint and cutting compounds will soon wear it away to the base metal surface.

The best way to preserve a good shine on caravan paintwork or grp end panels is to wash the caravan with a good caravan shampoo, polish if necessary with a good car polish which is a mild cutting compound which removes stubborn marks, road film and grime ( Autoglym or Meguiars) and then wax the surface using Autoglym sealant or Meguiars stage 3 wax. The surface should be washed and waxed regularly after the initial polish and the shine will be preserved.
You don't need to polish again provided that the caravan is washed and waxed regularly and cutting paste or compounds should never be used on caravans.
There's a difference between cutting compound, which is not suitable for caravans, polish and wax, Click Here
