Travelling from south Lake District to york and possibly Scarborough. Which roads do you advise to take - the A65/A59 or go up the M6 onto the A685 then the A66. I have also heard some roads are not suitable for caravans at all in Yorkshire. Also would love advice on caravan sites near the beach(within 5 miles)and things to do, 2 teenagers to amuse. All advice on roads/sites/towns to visit/beaches/theme parks-(Flamingoland)anything to do with yorkshire will be very much appreciated. Thanks - Helen.

The only road that is unsuitable for caravans and class 1 hgv is hemsley bank, but that is north of york on the edge of the north york moors nat park, but if you go near there towing your unit there are signs advising you of the alternative route.

The bank is actually Sutton Bank, on the A170 between Thirsk & Helmsley.

As you state alternative route is well signposted
