Hi

(after M1 exit J6a)

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any roadworks on this stretch.

there are roadworks on the M25 clockwise at the M11 (j27)to j(28)A12,depending on what time you travel you may get caught up at the Dartford crossing. for all the lastest you should log on to the highways agency web site as this tell you present and future road works plus all current road conditions. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. Would you prefer to travel on Friday or Saturday? (Reaching M25 about 10am).

(p.s. I normally do this route on a Friday but wondered if Saturday might be a bit better regarding hold ups.

Thanks Sadie. I'm going to risk going on Friday, I did the same trip last year on Friday, although I bet this decision will come back to bite me. LOL!!

Hope the weather stays fine, we had the most glorious sun set tonight.

Hi Lisa,

I live too close to the M25 to ignore your question! Despite what everyone says, the M25 is the most unpredictable motorway there is. It is really pot luck, sometime ok, sometimes its a carpark. We avoid it, if it is at all possible. The toll booths at the Dartford crossing are a nightmare and cause huge tailbacks, which can go for miles.

Lisa, hitting the M25 at about 10am is the best time to hit it (so to speak), I live in Kent and work in Essex so I have the pleasure of the Dartford Crossing twice a day!!!

If you reach the M25 at 10am on a Sat morning you will get to the crossing about 11am so you will be caught up with all the shoppers trying to get to Bluewater. So in essence Sat am will be as bad as Fri am.

If / when you hit a queue on the bridge the two left most lanes tend to move better than the two right hand ones.

The last few times I have travelled back from the Midlands I have not had any issues with the roadworks that stretch from J26 to J28, but be aware that from J26 - J27 the limit is 40 rather than the normal 50 (even with a van on the back 40 feels really slow!!) and there are average speed cameras.

I've decided to go on Saturday now, I intend to leave the midlands at about 6am. Any better? LOL!

Leaving a 6 am means you should pass Lakeside and Bluewater before they open - IMHO that is a very good move!!!

I used to live there so Romney Marsh holds some fond memories for me.

I'm hoping to get some shots of abandoned boats at Dungeness as Dungeness has become a mecca for photographers.

Lisa, that's the other end of Kent from me - it is looking like good weather for the weekend so that should be good for the photography.

Hi

Yes, I do hope the weather forecasters are correct on this occasion. I'll hopefully be doing sunsets and sun rises.

There's also St Dunstan's, which is a 12th century Church in Snargate. Hoping to get some decent shots of that too.

Are you going to visit haunted Pluckley?

Sorry to put a dampener on things, but there has been a serious accident in the Dartford Tunnel this morning and one bore is still closed. If there continues to be problems then they may take a lane out on the bridge.

Hopefully it should be OK for tomorrow - good job you didn't travel today!!

my daughter left peterborough at 7.30 this am arrived at my place just out side canterbury at 10.05 travelled a1 a14 m11 m25 m2 a2 152 miles.

Hi Lisa, if you're going to Dungeness try the "Pilot Inn", a bit pricey but the fish and chips are great. I travel 30 miles to eat them!

Early riser, that's good timing for your daughter. I'll try to get over to see Doris on Sunday night as I'm hoping to get some shots of the church.

Chrisbee - Yoh, the Pilot is renowned. We arrived too late last year but we'll be in there for 6pm I'm told.

Off to bed now.
