Roof light dome ‘Darkening System’

Hello forumistas,

We’re on our first break in the caravan with the wife and kids at a lovely little site near Northwich, Blakemere Holiday Park.

I’ve noticed a couple of the folding shades for the roof dome have splits in the folds (see photo).

Without replacing them - which I guessing would cost a fortune - is there a quick fix that could remedy this small but annoying problem?

How old is the caravan?
My old girl has blinds just like yours. With age the fabric wears , fails and lets light dots in.
We have tried various remedial methods , tapes , glues nail varnish . Some have worked short term but none long term.
I know some people have made up their own blackout curtain securing it to the frame with double sided stick velcro.

I vaguely remember someone posting that they had replaced a similar blind with one from ikea?? Think it was on here?? Serious googling may find something. Try You tube as well.

Have you tried SFM caravan breakers for a good second hand one

Thin aluminium foil tape on the hidden side does the job, fiddly, but not difficult. Duct tape is too thick.

2012 - I could live with it but an inexpensive easy fix would be great 👍

Possibly, but it's not difficult. Look for small plugs the same colour as the frame, tease then out with the corner of Stanley knife blade to reveal the Phillips heade screws that hold the inner frame in place.
Another option would be to use some black-out blind material, cut to size, and fixed to the frame with self adhesive velcro? A bit of an "all or nothing" option, but certainly effective!

Ikea pleated blinds £3

Ikea are selling 100% polyester pleated blinds for £3 each 35 inches x 75 inches (90cm x 190cm) they are called Schottis, no drilling required, great cheap alternative if you need to replace blinds in your caravan or motorhome, they come in white or dark grey.
