rouen

having looked on my maps on i pad (tom tom) i belive it shows that the seine bridge is close going south it shows a no entry sign can any one confirm this . we are not going until first week in may but im try to plan the route down to sarlat de canede for three weeks plus a week to get down and one back any info would be great thanks malc

I've got a guide to getting through Rouen on the route we use, which keeps you to the east side of the river Seine. If you'd like a copy email me at valathomenow@tiscali.co.uk.
We've never gone through the centre, having found this route years ago, we stick to it. It is most useful for those heading for the Dordogne, or Clermont Ferrand and the Languedoc, rather than those heading for Tours or the west coast.

Like Val A, I have always taken the route down the eastern side of the river and apart from the odd stretch of poorly maintained road, the journeys have always been very easy. I think that may change this year as there will no doubt be a large increase in the volume of traffic using this route due to the bridge closure.

Now that's true Steve - and something I hadn't thought of. Maybe I ought to work out another route, quickly! I don't want to be stuck behind dozens of UK caravans, all going the same way! Anyone know how long the bridge is closed?

Hi Val. If you come up with an interesting alternative, give me shout.
I have followed your travels for a long time now and we appear to have similar interests and travel the same kind routes.

........well I will be down there (all being well) this Saturday Feb 2nd

I will have my caravan and will be using the D6015 via Pont-de-L'Arche to by-pass Rouen.
I believe the official diversion for trucks crossing Rouen north to south is A28-A29-A150-A151-N338-N138-A139-A13

Let us know how you got on Gafferbill!
We did try a cross country route one time, but it was very badly signposted, very narrow roads, and took forever! I'll study the maps tonight - though I'm not really in the mood for anything too complicated. I think a glass of wine is calling! After that, take no notice of any routes I might come up with!

........the N28 after the Dametal tunnel now ends in traffic lights at a T junction..... left to the airport and the east bank of the river and right into the town centre and other bridges.
I turned left last Saturday with no delay but this junction is bound to cause problems in busy periods.
I do not think the Mathilde bridge will be open again any time soon.

Made it down to the coast of Andalucia.....16degC and blue skies to day

We plan to go down thro Rouen next month and have always gone Via A28 through the Darnetal Tunnel and followed the signs for A13 Paris which take us through Rouen down by the railway (over the roundabout with the Cows on !!) and onto the A13 at Oissel before the bridge over the Seine. Is this still possible I am not sure which bridge it is that is closed..Any advice would be appreciated.
