Anybody else have any thoughts on the news that car production is to start again?

Good news I feel.

But wasn't there supposed to be an enquiry into the £millions of aid pumped in and where it went and why it all collapsed?

I havn't heard or seen anything?

I've mixed feelings on this one.

I think the boat has sailed, if the new owners pick up all the warranty claims they will probably go bust before they start I understand!

They has some OK looking cars but sales were dismal and some still had to many quality problems.

Who is going to risk even more money on buying the brand unless they sell really cheap.

They've taken a lease on a site that is still split in two and thought to be uneconomic to ever compete. Despite all the greens spouting anti car propaganda I can see HM Gov and councils pumping funding in, in one way or another and it all going pear shaped again with mor families thrown to the wind :-(

Only engine and special production will continue in the UK. The assembly plant has been labeled and dismantaled and a duplicate building is currently being assembled in China where the lines will be installed for production.

My brother is currently driving the chinese around while they do that and after speaking to them has no imformation on warrenty issues or on what is / is not to be produced. However, the Xpower plant is still here and no plans are drawn up to remove that so we may see the SV still being produced in the UK.

It is a common beleif that the Chinese are going to start production on the 75 and the new 45 as well (a year or so) as the 4x4 that was in development at Rover. They where getting it right in the end and it would be good to see the brand again, even if it is only in the MG guise

All that's happened is that the Chinese have signed the lease for the site and are being a bit cagey about its future but the word is that it will be a small volume production facility concentrating on MG sport scars

I hope Rover/MG do get back into manufacturing, even if it is only on a small scale, from little acorns grow...

There is a rich and diverse history with these marques; it would be a shame to loose it alongside so many other British names. BMW were once in trouble with their backs to the wall, they were helped out by manufacturing under licence an Austin car, all it takes are a couple of good products to get a company going, that and a workforce with pride in their work and company. Sounds easy, I know it isn't, but we in the UK have been underestimated before, it's time we were given the chance to shine again.

Well it would be good for the workers if they can make it happen.

And sweet and sour chicken for lunch every day and a pancake roll for ellevenses has got to be worth forsaking a bonus ;-)
