running fridge on Leisure battery

Just bought a van with an 80 ah leisure battery and trickle charger
Will it be ok to run the fridge on the battery while it is on charge ,using 240 hook up, and will it get cold enough
thanks for any help

It will be better to run it on 240v if you're plugged in.

The 12v setting is for when it's on the car and is really designed for maintaining a low temperature rather than cooling the fridge.

Think - 12v cool box!

I'm afraid you don't give enough information to receive an answer to your question.
The ampere rating of the trickle charger must be greater than the current required by the fridge plus the current required to charge the battery.
The battery charge current will change depending on the state of charge of the battery (a flat battery takes more current and when on float charge the least current).
It follows then the charger ideally should be rated for charging a flat battery plus the fridge current.

No. The 12v system on a fridge is only designed to keep the fridge cool whilst travelling and the 12v is provided by the tow vehicle. The fridge must be pre-cooled either by gas or 230v.

As has been said, the fridge will NOT work from the leisure battery at any time.
It will only work on 12v when the van is connected to the car and the engine is running, providing your sockets are correctly wired.

The "information" in one of the earlier posts about charge rates from the van charger is not applicable to the running of the fridge.

For clarification: the fridge is not connected in any way to the caravan 12V system at least in terms of cooling (the light usually works of the caravan battery or power supply.) The only 12V cooling connection from the fridge is to the 13-pin or 12S car connection.
It runs of mains when the EHU is in use provided it is correctly switched.
It will run off gas but that should only be used on site.
