Rust spots in paintwork.

I purchased an Ace jubilee Aristocrat 2007 model brand new in December. I was washing it at at the weekend and noticed what appeared to be a lot of tiny orange specs in the paint on one side of the Caravan. On closer inspection these appear to be rust coming through the paint work.

I have contacted my Dealer and have arranged to take the van to him for inspection this weekend, he did comment that it could not be rust as the sides are made of Aluminium.

I was wondering if anyone else has had or is aware of a similar problem.

Hi Neil

I would be interested to know where you keep your caravan. Until recently mine was on a storage site near a railway line and I noticed that small orange spots (resembling rust) have appeared on the back (closest to railway line). Other owners have reported similar spots. Haven't worked out the link yet but cannot remove spots!!

Changed storage site.

Hi Hylton,

My Caravan has been parked outside my house since I bought it. What van have you got ? On the back should not be a problem if it is a modern van as the back is plastic.

In my case I am wondering if it is poor quality Aluminium that has been used for the side panels with some Steel particles in.

Aluminium normally oxidises so should not represent a rust colour. Do you know the other owners with similar problems or how to contact them ?

Regards

Neil.

I found these rust spots on the back of our van which is "plstic" and wondered how they got there, thinking back i had to drill a gate hinge and it is possible the wind blew the swarf on to the van.I got them out by using T- cut and they completly went.

Hylton,

from what you describe it's almost certainly rust! it comes from the brake shoes & also the pick up shoe for the electric power, of the trains.

These manifest themselves as rust spots, which they are, but if you look at them through a powerful magnifying glass you will see them as "rust particles" imbedded in the paint, the showers of sparks produced are red hot particles of iron, which when the settle onto your paintwork, melt themselves into the surface, & then oxidise, thus giving the speckled rusty look.

They are an absolute pain to remove! the only sucsessful way is to wash down the paintwork with a weak solution of Oxalic Acid, the Oxalic acid powder can be obtained from any decent chemist or a really good motor factor who specialises in auto car paint supplies.

Just explain what you want it for & follow the instructions to the letter!
