Saggy rear end!!!

Hope someone can help.

I have an Audi A4 2.5tdi quattro Avant (99V) but the rear springs are a bit soft and when the van (2008 Bailey Ranger 540/6) is on the back, its on the ground.

Does anyone where i can get some uprated springs (not lowered as it already has sports suspension).

Before considering uprated springs, are you sure that you are not towing with excessive noseweight? You say that your car has sports suspension which would suggest that the springs are already uprated compared with a regular suspension setup, so your question does raise some doubts.

my previous tow car was the same car as yours, only with the 1.8t engine.

It was an excellent towcar, the only issues i had with it was tramlining in the slow lane of the motorway.

Also the lowered suspension gave ground clearance problems on bumpy CLs.

With a correct nose weight the rear of the car should not drop more than 1".

I recall 1/2" to be nearer the mark for the car i had, with a nose weight of 65 to 70kg.

I ran an Audi A4 Avant quattro 1.9tdi sport for 70k+ miles.

I had the rear springs and dampers replaced at 65,000 miles as the rear end was noticeably drooping,to the point that you could not get your hand in between the rear wheel arch and the tyre.

The car had towed a Bailey Pageant Vendee for no more than 5000 miles.Although the noseweight on the Audi was 80kg,I always balanced the caravan to @ 70kgs to avoid excessive movement of the rear end of the car.

The cost was not great at my local garage.Using official Audi springs and dampers it came to @

Solo the car sits fine, i just thought the springs could be 'soft' as the back end is really low when towing (even though i have rubber assistors in the rear springs.

Not sure about the nose weight issue, i'll check next time i get it out of storage.

Sounds very ominous if you already have rubber spring assistors in addition to sports suspension. Even the assistors shouldn't be necessary.

as mentioned, you should not need spring rubbers, the sports suspension is stiff as it is, i drove round to miss pot holes the ride was that hard, the stiffer springs come with uprated dampers, gas filled as i recall.

The audi was the first car i had that didnt need spring assisters, all my previous normal road cars were fitted with doenuts
