Santander area - sites

we and our friends are still

trying to find an overnight

in the Santander region when

coming off the ferry, they have

2 dogs which seems a problem with

some sites. Ferry docks noon local

so don't know how much time to get

anywhere to get bedded down in

reasonable time. Arrival 21st dec

Ross. You don't say which direction you want to go. I usually catch that ferry and 3 hours later I'm at the campsite near Biarritz.

Whatever you do, avoid the municipal site in Santander. The last and only time I went there it was unfriendly, basic and the facilities were filthy.

Hi Jim

we are en-route to Benicassim, Valencia and are

staying at Zaragoza on the 22nd Dec but we don't

know how much time we have got when we get off

ferry etc for safe bedding down, we and our

friends are 'newbies' cheers Ross

Ross. Can't help, sorry. I've never been that way. Getting off the ferry at that time of year should be quite quick. It isn't too bad in the middle of August. However at that time of year you could encounter some snow on the high ground. There are certainly signs suggesting that on the motorway west of Bilbao, in the Pyrenees

Ross and Andrew,

Sorry Playa Joyel will not do. We were there this August and they have very prominent signs up saying "no dogs".

Cheers

Hi all

tks for your replies, we think we are ok nw

bit of a minefield with either no dogs or

like de Haro closes on 10 Dec! But with no

need to book it looks only option is Santallana

del mar which is 30km west of Santander off

the a67. And we got into at a place in Zaragoza

Checked on shopping xmas times at Valencia which

might cover nearly all of Spain. Short days on

24th dec/31st Jan and apart from xmas day/new year and

sundays normal opening hours. tks take care

and be safe.

Camping Santillana del mar, open all year, 25 miles from Santander. good facilities, with bar and resturant etc. Santillana del mar is also worth a visit in its own right.
