Satellite dish advice

I am seriously thinking about buying a satellite dish to enable me to have a reasonable tv coverage anywhere in the UK mainly, but with a view to going further in time, say France/Spain etc.

I would like practical advice as to how much better a signal I am likely to get against using my Status 530.

Please dont refer me to the various internet sites that exist, I have read them, but would much prefer to have advice given by people who actually use the kit.

Any advice on makes etc, would be most welcome

So long as there's nothing in the way between satellite and dish, like trees, really dark thunderclouds, etc., reception is ideal wherever you are within the footprint of the beam. You mention France and Spain. Depending on how far south you intend to travel, you may need a rather large dish if you wish to receive UK channels. If you can make do with the odd news channels, like Sky News, BBC World, or foreign channels, you can select other satellites, other than the usual Astra 28.3

Agree with Lutz. If for use in UK only, using Astra 28.3 East, any dish 40cms Dia or larger will do you OK. Lidl & Maplins do the full kit (I use this in UK)(you supply TV!)for around

Good Luck

You can not directly compare a satellite signal with a freeview one as either can have a better signal depending on where you are situated.

A freesat system will give more channels but do lack some that are available on freeview (Dave being one).

I operate freeview using a status 530 perfectly well in most places in the UK and that is what I use most of the time and for longer stays I will use the satellite suitcase for a few extra channels.

Going abroad you will need the satellite if you want UK TV.

I have a satellite suitcase from Maplins but can't get any signal. I have assembled it correctly so I think I must be on the wrong satellite. The signal strength won't move off 37% wherever we aim the dish. What am I doing wrong?
