Get the tripod of a set of work lights without the lights. The dish will work perfectly well at ground level provided it can 'see' the sky plainly in a roughly SSE direction and there is nothing within about 3m in front of the dish. It will also be more stable closer to the ground - less affected by wind - and a couple of pegs over the feet work even better..

If you are going to France such tripods are readily available in the DIY sheds for about E15. Bricoman alongside the autoroute at Boulogne is a good start; IMSMC there is also a Bricoman at Calais between the ferry junction and the Chunnel junction on the autoroute.
