Hi all

Does anyone have any comments on sattelite dishes.....?

is it worth getting one

if so what size

can you recieve any channels different from standard freeview

can you indeed pick up freeview

are they easy to line up

what sort of coverage can I expect

I'm trying to decide if I will benefit from getting one or sticking to the Status 530 aerial fitted to my caravan.

I've only had one problem with reception up to now but this is my first year of caravanning.

Any advice would be appreciated

regards

Mike

Strictly speaking this is suposed to be the Towcar bit but anyway.

Used a Dish, size is unimportant in UK, you will need to take your skybox or buy an additional box, your card will work and give you the same progs as you get at home.

Setting up is OK with a satfinder - I used a simple LED version - trees and obstructions that block the signal are a problem on some sites, a mast to get the dish higher can help.

Personally I can no longer be bothered with all the faffing around and have bought a cheap freeview box from Tesco - the older type status was pretty naff I found but the new directional type gets Freeview ok.

I am pretty sure you can't get Freeview using a dish but then why would you try?

Go to Roadpro's site they sell all the gear you need at good prices.

Mike,

With a dish you can get "FreeSat from Sky" which as the name suggests is a sort of Freeview but via Sky. Mostly the same channels but there are differences. Have a look at Sky website for FreeSat.

Hope this helps.

The advantage of satellite is that you have guaranteed coverage wherever you are and you can receive your local programmes even when far away from home (of course only if they are transmitted by satellite).

The disadvantage is is that you need clear line of sight to the satellite. In other words, a satellite dish is not much good to you if high trees are in the way.
