Doe's anyone have any information about school holidays next year, with all the moaning going on about the price of holidays and what it costs families to go away at peak times and wanting to take their kids out of school without risking a fine, i'm just wondering what is the best time going to be for fossils like me to go away,

GG,
Thanks for your reply but is it likely that parents will be able to take their children out of school when they so wish for holidays,

Depends on whether you're the type of fossil that's forgotten that you were a child once or not? And of course the pre school children will be about at any time. I would suggest maybe the two weeks of September should be fine, failing that the middle two weeks of January.

I'm asking a reasonable question without your sarcastic reply, I've certainly not forgot my childhood I'm still doing a paper round to make up my old age pension, sorry I can't do January we spend that month in the Algarve,

Pitpony, I would take my kids out of school and risk the fine, apparently it cant be enforced any more. Id tell the school they were ill but that`s just me. The prices during the school holidays are ridiculous.

Even if you did get fined it was £60 per parent per child. That's £240 for two children which is still considerably cheaper than paying peak time school hols prices.

Having been away during the first two weeks of September this year, it is clear that these are the weeks that Folks unencumbered by school age children take their hols. Wall to wall grey hair (including us).

The instructions from the dept of education covering unauthorised absences actually allow a school to impose a fine of £60 per parent per child per day!

My wife took our youngest son, to meet up with me in Dubai, he was, 15 at the time, told the school to give him work to do for two weeks , and there was no problems, he wrote a great history and Geopraphy, "Thing" , about Dubai and the Emeriates on our return, and also another about Sharks which we encountered, whilst Snorkerling. Well worth taking out of school. And no fines.

we always went middle two weeks in may and middle two in september. a lot quieter and cheap rate. even when the kids were at school. course that was 30 years ago. times have changed but even then there were grumblings.
once a headmaster tried to refuse their holidays saying we should go while school was out.
I went down and tore a strip off him. :woohoo: "it may be fine to do that when you have 13 weeks down time to go in. but some of us that actually work for a living and can't get the time off as that's when everybody with kids want to go.
you go when you can get the time off. if that means pulling the kids out of school so they get a holiday so be it"

we still went those four weeks right up to selling the van it was our 4 weeks.

I once contacted the Camping & Caravanning Club to ask on behalf of forum members with children why their pitch prices increase significantly during school holidays and half term breaks.
Their disingenuous reply was that the prices charged during school holidays was the normal pitch price and at other times discounts were applied. :S
The simple answer to the OP would be to check the C&CC website to see when and where the most over 60s age discount applies to pitch fees and to choose those weeks if school holidays etc are to be avoided.

I would suggest avoiding August. We took our kids during the last week of July this year and the prices hadn't jumped up to the August rates although it was still ridiculous compared to early July when the kids were in school. I assume that your original post was more to do with the price rather than avoiding children (although I can see the advantage to that.)

some of the sites that I am looking at for a week away during the school summer holidays are £58 per night fully serviced and £40 for EHU.

That is inordinately expensive. Almost defeats the whole point of touring caravan holidays.
We started caravanning with the kids as in truth it was all we could afford at the time. And it was a lot cheaper!

Just like get this thread back on TOPIC, it is bound to be NW and gas bottles any post now, my original post was quite innocent I was only making an enquiry for my neighbour down the road because he takes his grandkids away with him and was concerned what would happen if he was to take his grandchildren away in school term, and I also like to avoid noisy sites with skateboards and bikes flying about all over the place breaking the site speed limit of 5mph, now theres nowt wrong in asking that, :)

Very true DD but I was looking at a holiday park with pool and evening entertainment and such added extras. I have just checked out the new forest campsites for the same week, and they have toilet blocks but no EHU or serviced pitches and they are £32 per night.

it depends what you want really.

If you want to know the same thing for France they is shown on the current (for the year) Michelin sheet 726 Grands Itineraires / route planning.
A little more complicated as there are 3 zones with different holiday windows.

May be available on the viamichelin website but I have yet to look as not usually a problem for me.

I've checked the rules of the forum but couldn't find anything that would ensure that contributors to a thread stayed stictly on topic. Many conversations stray over a variety of subject matter so if you feel that a reply is not strictly on topic it's best to ignore it and to move on.
The use of block capitals on internet forums is considered to be a bit rude and shouty, and in point of fact there is a significant difference between your original query and the reason for your query that you gave as you upbraided forum members about staying 'on topic'.
If any forum rules are breached either Damian or I will resolve the issue, please don't take fellow forum members to task about their discussions, that sort of thing creates friction and hurt feelings. :)

Parksy,
Point taken, but it was suppose to be tongue in cheek when I used capitals , I'm well aware what capitals dictate on web sites, :)

Just Had a look at prices for Tourers, at Sandy Balls, in the New Forest.
Before the start of the Sumer holidays, ie mid june, the cost is £15 a pitch pn. It then jumps to £40 and for August it leaps to £55.
I shall stick to cl's / cs's.
Pitpony, I have notice some of the "Adults only" sites don't charge quite so high during high season.
Good luck.

I have just come back from an adults only site £19.00 a night, it was a shame really because they have two excellent fishing lakes so no little Lads and Dads fishing,

I have tried the link offered above - a lot of the holiday times say 'varies by region'. You should be able to find advance holiday dates for several future years through your local authority website, education or schools section, although of course many schools are academies now there is usually local agreement on term dates. Main summer holiday may vary from authorities by as much as 2 weeks, and shorter holidays like October half term in different weeks within the month. Both parents and teachers need to know in advance so they can book holidays or events in advance.
Hope this helps if you are not already sorted!

I know this may seem a bit pedantic [if that is the right word] but we used to keep a book of the places we stayed at.

amongst those were 4 sites we used regular 1 in Scotland, one in Dorset and two in Cornwall. these were adults only no doggies sites, and 3 of them had lakes. what can one say 2 weeks in heaven.
