Just booked ferry from Ireland so will arrive in Cairnyran early May for a fortnight, need around five GOOD sites in bonnie Scotland. Intend to stay on the West coast. Prefer "4 star" sites (which in Ireland means there are good scenic views or a pub is on site plus 16 amp electric hookup etc.)

Narrow it down Brian......the west coast covers a few miles.Do you wish to stay in Dumfries / Ayrshire or do you want to head further north?

Hi brian

As you are coming into Cairnryan I would suggest that you consider The Ranch at Maybole as your first and/or last stop. The site is excellent and a good base to explore South Ayrshire (and an easy jaunt into Ayr if your wife wants some Retail Therapy). Maybole is a very easy drive to/from Cairnryan.

I would also suggest a visit to Glencoe. There are a few good sites in and around Glencoe and the scenery is mindblowing. On your way from Maybole to Glencoe you could stop at Loch Lomond (there is an excellent site at Balloch).

From Glencoe you could head North to Fort William or Oban, both are lovely areas. Further North is also beautiful but I would restrict myself to Fort William and/or Oban as otherwise it would involve a fair bit of driving and probably too much for a fortnight.

Let me know if this sounds ok and I could draw up a route for you and research some sites to recommend.

Are you in Northern Ireland or the Republic? I work in Dublin three days a week and love it over there.

Cheers

Richard

An alternative suggestion to the CC site at Maybole is the Camping & Caravanning Club site at Culzean Castle, Maybole. It has a view of Arran, very picturesque at sunset. Culzean Castle is also spectacular, the castle and the gardens are both worth visiting - I think you get reduced entrance fee if you're staying on the site.

No pub handy though as far as I know!

I agree that the Culzean Castle site is very nice. We've seen some lovely sunsets there and it's possible to walk to the castle.

The grounds of the castle are beautiful, there's a cafe and farm shop and lovely lake to walk round and you can get down to the sea.

Just make sure you don't get one of the pitches behind the toilet block.

Hi Brian.

Sorry to everyone if I am sounding like a broken record! But my best recommendation is the Invercoe site at Glencoe. Such a stunning area. Not pub on site, but local hotels close by.

This site is a good base for walking/climbing/fishing etc and only 20 minutes from Fort William. The site owners are very helpfull and friendly. If we could stay there all the time we would!

Hope this helps

Cheers

Hamish C

p.s. For information on this site google Invercoe Highland Holidays.

Thank you for all your suggestions and I am now planning a route based on your sites which I will then book.

RJC,you have helped me enough with your input and I am from the North.

Alan Partridge, will visit Culzean Castle site.

Oklahoma, will avoid the pitches you mentioned.

ColinA, thanks for interesting link.
