Scottish Highland Tour

I'm off to tour the highlands next week, stopping at Moffat before continuing onto the C&CC site at Rosemarkie, then venturing back to Moffat via Glen Coe - does any one know of any issues i may come across on the way - or routes to avoid?

Many caravanners dislike the A82 along Loch Lomond, or at least it's northern half, because many of the oncoming foreign coaches encroach onto "your" side of the road.

Using the A85/A84 from Crianlarich to the M9 avoids this stretch of the A82 and Glasgow.

I know the A82 quite well, though I've never towed on it, and I would agree with that analysis. I've even felt squeezed for space in the Range Rover.

iv'e done that route several times myself nice round trip if you have plenty of time however I usually go up the west side through dumfries and ayr and catch the ferry at gourock to dunoon and then go along the A816 to oban along the full lenth of the caledonian canal using the A828/A82 to inverness and return down the A9 stopping at pitlocry on the way back (I want to go myself now?)oh and by the way WATCH OUT FOR MOTORCYCLES??

sorry about shouting but next week is I.O.M TT races there will be thousands of them on the west side of scotland on both weekends.

I agree with the other coments. The northern half of Loch Lomond road can be tight and need extra care. I would recommend the M80 and branch off just after Stirling and take the Calendar road, then Calendar, Lochearnhead, and Crianlarich. Watch for the bridge in Crianlarich - it a blind bend and you'll have to take the midle of the road. After that it's plain sailing. Have a good trip and let us know how you get on.
