Can someone please tell me the best method of cleaning caravan windows without scratching them, i`ve tried most things and used non abrasive clothes and cleaners on my vans but still seem to get scratches. I have now bought a new caravan and i am afraid to clean them. Can someone please help. What cleaner and what cloth is best?

This is not going to help much but over 40 years ago I worked as a lad for a neon sign company in London and in there work shop we had perspex cleaner, it was a cream, sorry but thats all I remember.

Hi Antony

Your dilemma is not all that bad. Perspex windows are easy to scratch but most (not all) of this can be avoided by using a good wash technique. The bit which does all the scratching is the fine particles of grit in the dirt and then it's made worse by using a sponge which just grinds those sharp particles into the finish.

What I do is get an old trigger spray bottle (household detergent type) and put about an inch of car shampoo in the bottom. Fill up to the top with water and shake it up. Then spray the windows with the foamy contents and allow it to soak in and soften the dirt. Rinse thoroughly with a plain hose end after about 5 minutes. Keep rinsing until all the foam has gone. This has the effect of removing 90% of the dirt so it is now a lot safer to wash them with a mitt. By this I mean a lambswool washmitt rather than a sponge as the wool is a deep pile and allows the remaining grit to move away from the surface of the windows instead of being ground into them. Always use plenty of car wash soap in the water you are cleaning the windows with as this acts as a lubricant which also helps prevent damage.

Hope this helps a bit
