Hello everybody,

We are hopefully going away for a few days over xmas for the first time this year. after having a look around im not coming up with too many ideas. we are in west yorks, and dont really want to go more than 2/3 hours away. we also need it to be very dog friendly, we dont need all singing all dancing. ive looked at chatsworth and that seems to be a contender. any help from you lovely people out there would be very much appreciated

thankyou ED

We've been going to moffat scotish borders for the last 3 new years, Site is a mile and half of the motorway and every other caravan seems to have a dog, some good walks for them and alot of the hotels and bars are dog friendly,we stay on the camping and caravan club site they do take none members and you should do that in 3 hours.

Thankyou Cheshire cat,

i will have a look, we are members of both clubs. i was just thinking of weather conditions for the last couple of years, so didnt want to go too far. (Our problem is getting from our home to the M1..Which is only 5 minutes away, but we are on top of several steep hills. ).. Thankyou again, off to look now.

regards ED

Not a problem Ed The last 2 years there as been snow on the ground but they seem to look after the roads better than we do so there's been no problems getting to the site. were just off the motorway at warrington so for us its a straight run of 160 miles long enough in winter, Moffats a great little place plenty to see and do.

We're from West Yorkshire too. Last year we took a winter seasonal pitch at Bardsea Leisure at Ulverston. The site in situated in an old quarry so is very sheltered (although last winter was exceptionally cold and we did get snow and ice, brilliant icicles running down the quarry walls!). The loo/shower block is brilliant, it has individual rooms with washbasin, loo and shower with underfloor heating. It's lovely to get out of the shower and put your feet on a warm floor. They also have a service centre and accessory shop on site. Nice dog walk and there's a lovely pub within walking distance The Old Farmhouse with a restaurant, settees and log fires and (not my scene) large screen TVs. Can recommend both the site and the pub. There's also a dog walk and a fishing pond. Over the entire winter the site was very quiet - it's a mixture of static and tourers. The statics are unoccupied from November to March. There were quite a lot of caravans there but very few people using them. Most weekends when we went up there would be no more than half a dozen vans occupied with some visiting motorhomes. Forgot to add the pub also allows dogs in.
