Hi Happy New Year to Everyone !!

Well that's it all passed and time to start about summer (already have ideas for between now and then lol)

We have been looking at Searles. We are a family of 4, mum & dad, 2 girls - 13yrs + 10yrs, and a dog. We like the summer hols to have a bit of on-site evening entertainment but don't like huge sites like Haven etc. This ones looks good but also, HUGE !! Want to make sure the girls are safe and can wander about with new friends. Anyone have experiences on this site ? Also any recommendations greatly accepted. We come from the west of Scotland, but willing to travel anywhere around Britain. (Have been to Devon several times).

Hi Ashley

I've used Searles on several occasions. It is a big site, but it doesn't feel like it (unless you go at peak times). The touring section is located at the back of the site, with the static vans and 'lodges.'

What's nice about it is that you're a stones' throw from the beach (funfair, sealife centre, all manner of fast food outlets, amusement arcades etc). The pitches are of a good size and well laid out with plenty of washing facilities.

The club house is more of a complex - there's the nightly entertainment which is of a good standard, in a very nice room. Children are well catered for. Outside the clubhouse is a type of huge 'conservatory' that houses a seating area, pool, food outlets and the reception area. There is a security point here too with some very helpful security guards!

What's nice about this site is that they charge for the pitch, not per person. For example, we've taken our van down on a Friday, for the weekend, with 5 adults and 2 kids and been charged

Hi Ashley,

We had the same dilema last year, we have 2 teenage girls + a dog and we aint keen on Haven sites either but its a must to keep the girls entertained so we can get a holiday too. I was advised by a follow caravaner on this forum to try Hoburn Bashley, New Milton (not far for Bournemouth). It had lots to keep the kids entertained you can walk into town which is a huge bonus for us. The pitches are great too, very european with lots of room and hedges for privacy. Our kids where 14 & 12 last year and they really enjoyed it. We are from West Lothian so we went middle 2 weeks in July to miss the english holidays and the site wasnt overly busy which was nice. Lots of lovely places around for day trips and you can also get the train from New Milton to Bournemouth & Poole (which is a lovely place) and its really quite cheap, saves taking the car so dad can have a Beer.

Never been to Searles so cant comment there, but we got really fed up with Devon too.

Hope this helps.

Hi Audrey

Thanks for your comments. I'll have a look at Bashley, it sounds ideal. Think we've been to a Hoburn site before..maybe in the Cotswolds ?? Rings a bell anyway. We'll be going the same two middle weeks too so your experiences will be spot on lol. Where are you off to this year ? We'll be over your way pretty soon as we go to Thurston Manor on the odd occasion.

Ashley
