Bloody hell Steve. Poor Carole. Surely you both qualify for an early jab? Let’s hope it doesn’t affect her too badly. And it’s the last thing you need to catch😢😢. Local councils are offering help by volunteers to assist people in your situation.
We look after three couples here. A bit of shopping once a week, medicine collection and Terri rings them all every Friday for a chat. If you have it use it!

It’s really surprising how many Forum members have close links with people who have recently caught Covid. Far more than in the first wave. Strange that as early as July epidemiologists were predicting wave 2 would be worse than wave 1 and the new strain hadn’t been identified then.

Our granddaughter has just left to stay with our son in Wales, as her mum has volunteered for more shifts at the hospital. She’s been vaccinated for a week now but the thing that keeps me staying up late is that like tonight some shifts don’t end till midnight. Then followed by a 35 mile drive back across the Plain. I now know how my mum and dad felt when I was out all hours on my motor bike.

I always reasoned this would be a consequence, hence my continued warnings:(. I had also considered that as SARS-CoV-2 is a virus it was almost certainly (edited to complete missing sentence:) ...almost certainly going to mutate many times, some will make little or no difference but some could affect the virus's transmission.

At least the Gov't has now taken action to restrict visitors from abroad in those place where new strains have been identified.

My son in laws mother is beginning to suffer quite badly - not enough to be hospitalised. But the worry now is if she deteriorates further and needs one, will a hospital beds left?

I have since learned that one of my nephew's and his wife (in Nottinghamshire) have also caught the blighter. He is not to bad but his wife is struggling.

It beggars belief that in London 35% do not want the vaccine. Similar reports are emanating from the other big Cities. Apparently it is alleged the vaccines may contain certain animal products which are not acceptable on personal grounds. Without any prejudice to any person of whatever belief I have to say we are in an International multicultural pandemic where we will all die if we don’t pull together in the same direction. If you don’t want the vaccine don’t lean on the NHS at a later date. Rant over 💉💉💉👏💉

I'd hoped that I'd made it clear that we've got the message Prof.
We hear it morning, noon and night on news bulletins.
Social media is full of warnings and the government even pay for TV advertising to drive the message home.
It's not surprising that C19 has been discussed at length on this forum, but constant nagging and finger wagging is likely to drive members away from this forum.
Please make your most recent warning your last warning, I really don't want to start issuing warnings of my own.

Agree Parksy . This is a very emotive time. Some of us , me included , let steam off on here. If my last carefully worded post is out of order please feel free to delete with full apologies from me. I wish I’d trained as Trick Cyclist. Plenty of new work out there 😉😉😉

It’s not a new problem in communities with specific religious beliefs. We even had a major period of violent unrest on such grounds known as the Indian Mutiny. Where you have citizens with strong religious beliefs who are fed inaccurate information that directly goes against those beliefs the best way to make progress is to counter such misinformation via community leaders supported by others respected by the community, and family/peer pressure. Yesterday some 500 hundred or so religious centres strongly recommended to their congregations that they should take up the vaccine.
It’s not justifiable to withhold medical treatment on grounds of non vaccination for strongly held religious belief, or for analogous reasons. Along with the educational message will come community and family peer pressure. It may take a while longer than for other sections of community but I am sure that it will make progress. The mortality figures don’t support the view that “we will all die.” Those communities have a good take up of flu vaccine so there’s no reason once the fake information is countered that it shouldn’t be the same for Covid vaccines.

Here, on the Isle of Wight, the numbers of infection have skyrocketed since the Christmas relaxation of restrictions, and whilst we were one of the lowest infection places, we are now one of the highest, partly thanks to our wonderful Council extolling the Island as a holiday place and coach loads of elderly folk from higher infection places coming over as well as the "second home" brigade coming from higher infection places and passing the bug on.
Also , of course, there are those who simply ignore the recommendations and gather in large groups with no social distancing or masks as they are "not going to catch it"............

We are at the point where the only Hospital we have is full of Covid patients, all surgery has been cancelled and we now have a Chinook helicopter on QRA to fly the very seriously ill Covid patients to Southampton Hospital.

At the Crematorium they had two cold storage containers in readiness for a surge in requirement , which is now three containers !!!!

An aside. Reading the CAMC mag this morning I counted at least 26 dealers advertising to buy your caravan / motor home. Amazing.

I had an email circular from the C&CC yesterday which told of plans to open their entire site network from the beginning of April, subject to local restrictions.
I hope that it happens 🤞

Well that’s me topped as we’d booked for 26 March. Seems to be the story of our caravanning life since 2017. Certainly no intention of going anywhere at Easter, never have, never will.

Buckman, sorry to here of your loss.

My eldest daughter knows of two people who were recorded as having died from Covid in Wales when this was untrue. One died in a motorcycle accident with no Covid contribution possible. It did seem the hospital were often just adding Covid to death certificates almost as routine.

Figures now published for Scotland do show the number of deaths last year was about 7,000 up on 1919 though and quite a few of these seem to have been caused by the lockdown either through cancer or some other disease not being treated or just the effects of not being able to socialise.

The five month immunity is not correct. This is based on following NHS staff after they contracted Covid, what they can say is that 5 months on the vast majority still have immunity and it is likely to remain for some unknown further period.. To get the real facts we need to wait far longer to see how long these people manage but as many will now get the jab the immunity period for most people may remain a mystery and some people who have had it do not seem to et immunity.

In terms of who has recovered , PHE have said today -or it said on the radio that from antibody tests carried out randomly 1 in 8 already have antibodies to the disease-so one in 8 have had it however mild and recovered-won't be long before we should have heard immunity along with the jab and life can continue till the next one-sadly there will be-they've been waiting for something like this for a long time-or covid mutates sufficiently to have another go at us. But viruses like any parasite are most successful when they don't kill the host, so that's cheery!

Hospital mortality rates are published but it’s not feasible to say how many have recovered as there’s those at home who just feel rough but aren’t tested, there’s those at home tested but don’t die, and there’s the asymptomatic. The best figures are ONS or Kings College for overall infections less registered deaths. But even that wouldn’t necessarily be statistically sound. What you a really interested in is what percentage of hospitalised Covid patients survive. That’s in the HMG statistics.

Why don't the government also publish the figures for the number of people that have recovered from Covid19? Surely that is an important number?
I do agree it would be an interesting figure, but I doubt the figures actually exist, becasue it won't include anyone who may have had it but very mildly and never presented themselves for testing.

But we do know from the recent history the number of deaths from Covid seem large and are startling, but considered in the context of the number of infections the morbidity rate is not to far different from flu. But there are a number of reasons why this infection is so serious.

First and foremost - this a is a new human infection so there was no historic immunity in the population, so it could spread like wild fire and the numbers ramped up very quickly.

When people did develop serious symptoms, it placed unprecedented pressure on the health services, and for a several weeks at a time.

It was going to take time to produce a vaccine

There was is a continuing risk the virus was always going to mutate further, and that might bring new challenges - as was demonstrated by the UK new variant.

The virus's after effects are still only partially known, and there is evidence "long covid" is a growing concern with some people having serious quite debilitating long term issues.
