I have been trying to source this information from elsewhere but cannot find a satisfactory answer - so was hoping the knowledgeable people on this forum could help.

I have been trying to find out if the roof bars on the Sedona are adequate for a roof box fitting. The reason is that I hired a roof box once and the fitter put on roof bars rather than fit the box to the existing roof bars as he thought they were not substantial enough. I know him to be overly cautious and at that time I was driving without a caravan so the question of speed may have been in his mind.

The car log book only states that roof should not be loaded with more than 70kg.

So I was wondering if with travelling with the caravan (at obviously a maximum of 55/60 mph) can a roof box be fiited onto the existing roof bars without any problems - and has anyone done this ?

Hoping for an answer at last.

Hi, yes, the roof bars on the sedona will carry a roof box fine. I had an 03 plate sedona last summer. Put my 550 ltr roof box fully loaded with the bulky stuff. The bars are rated to a max of 70kg, but so are most roof boxes and aftermarket bars. Start putting more than that on the roof, and you'll have some interesting handling going into the corners.

Hi Mike

We've got an '05 plate Sedona LE and we put a roof box (big - not sure what litre it is) on when we go on a big jaunt.

I've found (in two years of trying) that the bars take the weight, no problem at all. However - what I have noticed is that because the bars are a type of 'spring fit' to the rails, the box tends to bounce up and down when you hit 60+ mph!!! Quite disconcerting when it happens the first time!

However! If you keep your speed below 60mph (which you would with a van on the back), then this problem wouldn't happen. I also worked out that if you have your sunroof on 'tilt', the updraft prevented the box from wobbling.

This situation might just be peculiar to my box (oo-er!) and yours might well not suffer these problems. I will be putting my box on again this summer.

One thing I would say - I tend to put large, bulky but lightweight items such as sleeping bags, duvets, air-beds etc in there - nothing really heavy.

I looked into getting some roof bars fitted - but it was going to be quite expensive. I've got a very helpful guy in our local towing shop who suggested putting some industrial plastic ties (like the ones you put round your hubcaps) around the roofbox/roofbar anchoring point - just as a safeguard.

In answer to your question - yes, the Sedona roof bars DO take roof boxes!

I too noticed roof boxes on Sedonas bobbing up and down in the slipstream and wondered if, eventually, the bars would suffer fatigue. Playing safe I bought Thule clamps and roof bars - not cheap - from Halfords though no doubt they are available elsewhere but I had no time to shop around. Belt and braces but I have seen other Sedonas likewise equipped so I guess we are not the only ones to have been pondering along these lines.

P.S.

My Sedona was equipped with plastic ties securing the hub caps when I bought it. Not needed in my case as the hub caps are secured by the wheel nuts. So if I loose the caps I have rather more to worry about than a few quids worth of plastic!

Do you have the specific reference number for the Thule roof bars for your Sedona? I think I might like to upgrade!

The roof bars instruction leaflet has the number 755 on the front.You will also need the feet to clamp them onto the existing side roof rails but I have not got the code for them. However the Halfords receipt shows ,presumably bar codes, 10 625335 and 10 625350. I used the in-store flip chart to select bars and clamps. In total they came to
