Hi, I have a Bailey Pageant series five and it is coming up for its second service. Do I have to use one of the dealers to maintain the warranty, or can I look elsewhere, such as an NCC approved workshop? I am tempted by one ofthe companies that comes to you, but wonder how the warranty would be affected?

Thanks

Gary

Thanks, although I have no doubt this will say it should be serviced by Bailey. I just wondered that as I can get my car serviced by a specialist and maintain the warranty if the same would apply to the caravan.

You can get your Bailey serviced at any NCC approved workshop. I am sure of this as I am the workshop manager of a Bailey Workshop based in the west midlands, I wont mention the name but we are near Solihull and you will find us mentioned on the forum

I understand it is generally accepted that if the maker (e.g. Bailey) is a member of NCC National Caravan Council then they will accept standard service carried out by any NCC/ CC Approved Workshop although they may require any work carried out under warratny to be by a maker dealer i.e. a Bailey agent in this case.

Suggest a call to their customer services to confirm this, and be sure you get a recepit showing that the workshop has NCC/CC approval.

Some of these workshops are a good deal cheaper than the big dealers and you usually deal directly with the bloke who does the work - not some front office person.

Hi, hopefully this will answer everyones questions and queries.

I have just spoken to Bailey themselves on the helpline number listed on their website. Right, to ensure you maintain your Bailey warranties all services must be done by either a Bailey retailer or a Bailey service centre (these can be found listed in the pack you will have received with the caravan). OR, with a NCC approved workshop (National Caravan Council).

Having spoken to the very helpful lady at Bailey she continued with a however!!!!!!!

Any work that is required on your caravan that would be classed as warranty work needs to be done by a Bailey retailer/service centre, the nice lady did say however that for example if a fault was found during a service by your local NCC workshop, he/she can contact Bailey direct and speak to their warranty department to get authorisation to carry out the repair/fault (I did get the impression from the nice Bailey lady that this may only be for minor issues).

To conclude, having now spoken to Bailey I can now look around my area for a more reasonably priced service centre/workshop, also knowing I'm not going to have a round trip of about 20 miles to get the van serviced and still maintaining the warranties. I hope this has made what is a very grey area much clearer, if you want confirmation of what I have said contact Bailey direct on their helpline (number can be found on the Bailey website).

Regards, Craig................

As a matter of curiosity I just checked how far to my nearest Bailey dealer - which, as it happens, is my nearest dealer of any brand of new caravan.

Result? 45 miles each way.

What would happen if a caravan was not road legal because of a warranty fault?

Hi

Some mobile engineers are NCC approved so check the lists for one of these.

With regards to not road legal, I have carried out repairs to caravans and motorhomes under warranty where they are on site at the other end of the country from point of purchase. In these instances the dealers where contacted and the work approved before it was carried out. I would recommend that a assessment is obtained form a local engineer and the dealer subsequently contacted. They usually are very understanding especially if you are stranded!

Bailey have introduced a "Transient Service Dealer" status, alongside "Service Dealer" to aid those who don't want to use the selling dealer for servicing or warranty work.
