Has anyone been to Seton Sands, with their caravan, i know it's Haven & they used to have a bit of a bad reputation for bad drainage etc. & no one can answer for the odd dodgy family in the converted transit with the feral kids, we have been to many Haven sites BUT in their hired vans, got great price but wondered if it's pay less = get less lol

Been to the Haggerston Castle with the van. NEVER AGAIN! Extortionate prices for food and drink, kids running wild all over the place while the parents are sitting bevvying. Full of Geordie and Weggy Chavs with their customary track suits on. NEVER again, go at your own peril. This was last year.

Was this during school holidays or during term time ?, 28th March £114 for 7 nights, hard standing with electric, entertainment & swimming passes.

June sometime , entertainment was just a rabble not a seat to be had, a pint and a vodka £14, swimming? You couldn't find anywhere to dip your big toe in. I left a right good old review, funny it wasn't published.

A true caravanner would be looking further afield!
It may be easier if you said what sort of sites you like so Forumites could comment

Just got caravan, 1st one in many years, just looking for a few trips away without breaking the bank, £114 for a week with hook up is a lot cheaper then most sites for a weekend & yes I know you get what you pay for.

There was an area of ancient woodland called Brokerswood near Westbury. The owners initially created a CL with each pitch in its own glade. They then expanded into a proper site with showers etc. Talking to the owner who we had known for some years I was surprised to be told the significant number of visitors who came from Bath, Bristol area. A short drive which gave them more time on site especially at weekends. Or if working at school holidays. Leave family on site.

In my short time caravanning I've concluded that you don't need to travel far to have a nice relaxing break. I'm happy pitch up 30 miles away from home as long as it's a rural area with nice walks for the mutt. I'll look up Brokerswood.

I don’t know if they still do touring caravans as they moved upmarket into luxury lodges and that coincided with restrictions on ordinary public paying to just go in and walk around the lovely woods.

That's my thinking, I'm in aberdeen & Seton Sands is approx 140 miles from my door so not exactly local lol

Brokerswood! Sounds like a Midsomer Murder location.
Unfortunately like so many things it’s gone upmarket to meet current needs and there’s no longer any public entrance. We used it a lot when our kids were young and even through to them having left the nest. But when the original owner died the family started to implement paid activities and you could not buy an annual season ticket just to enter and wander around. Seems these days “stimulus” is required in so many areas of life. Classic example being pods, lodges etc that come with outdoor bath, or hot tub. Do I need such features. No not necessarily . but they aren’t an optional extra so I would effectively be forced to pay.

We did a Haven site (Wild Duck, Norfolk) in October 2007 and it was like an episode of Channel 4’s “Shameless”. I’m sure they’re not all like that but it put us off!
We have been to many haven/parkdean sites, using their static caravans across the last 35yrs with no real probs, last time we had a tourer we went to haggerston (bout 2010) with no probs, great toilets/showers, just wondered if anyone had been recently, but at £114 for a week on euro pitch, I couldn't really refuse, so booked & paid lol

Lovely nostalgic video. Even shows the car we had when students ……. Humber Hawk. Would have loved the Rover, but the grant only stretched so far without cutting into the beer and curry funds.
