Hi Mike. Yes, you can buy a domain name for peanuts nowdays but you will need a server to host it on. Most hosts offer several different hosting packages with a free domain name. Which host you go with and what package you need depends on what you intend to use your website for. Hosts offer different packages with different storage allowances and bandwidth allocations so these need to be taken into consideration depending on what you want your website for.

Once you have your domain and hosting, you then need to set up and upload your website. How you do this depends on your level of knowledge of HTML or use of a website creating package such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver for example. Some hosts offer a simple to use web creating package online.

If you need any further help or advice, I'm happy to help.

Hi Mike

I know legs is well up on these things so I won't try to outsmart him ;O)

For my business domain name I used a company called '1 & 1 internet limited' and my website I built myself using a company 'homestead .com

Thanks guys.

I know how to use frontpage and uploading as ive helped a friend run a VW club website.

A mate is bringing around a copy of dreamweaver so ill play with that. The website is a hobby , but as the wife says its turned into an obsession!! I like my gardening and growing all my own veg, all in good keeping with the planet etc. My main crop is chilli plants!! I have hundreds which last year worked well and I dried thousands out and sold fresh at car boots/work etc so this year im making chilli oil / chilli chocolate / chilli jam and selling plants. It does'nt cost much, its just the time involved and waiting for the plants to fruit. Ill post it up when I get round to it, produce wont be ready until the summer so fingers crossed :)
