SHOWER TRAY FAILURE

Yes a small half circle crack near the outlet of the light blue shower tray has appeared. It seems to be at the weakest point. It seems that it would repair or fill with a suitable filler/sealer. Can some one sugest the best option, the failed piece is still attached and it really is like half a small finger nail which needs filling and sealing. I do wonder about pumping some expanding foam around the waste access point in the floor from below to stiffern up the area and even push the failed piece of plastic back up in the tray profile, any comments would be helpful.

Shower trays are made of ABS plastic and although they may be able to be repaired using plastic weld, it is not always successful;. Unfortunately a new tray is usually the only satisfactory answer.

I tried to repair mine using a combination of glassfibre as a base and plastic weld on the top surface. It looked good for a short time.......... and then cracked again.

I can only suggest that if it does not work then get a new one. If you do not wish to pay manufacturer's inflated prices then try the following

I agree with Scotchlad, a repair will only be temporary. The tray in our 2002 Onyx had some cracks in it. On removal, there were signs of numerous cracks on the underside. After pricing up a new one, I decided to get a GRP replacement. This has been in for over a year and has performed very well.

Depending on the model of your 'van, O'Leary Motorhomes may have a replacement. There is also a company in the Preston area who also supply them (although I have heard of some delivery issues).

I had this problem with mine. I disconnected underneath and found that the drain system was badly out of line and I assume it was that constant strain that finally cracked it. I cut out the remaining one third of the (still connected) drain bowl with a small hacksaw blade. I then bought a stainless steel dog/cat bowl the folded over rim of which was a larger diameter than the remaining jagged hole but only just. I cut (chain drilled and saw and wriggle) a hole to suit the drain in the bottom of it and then using lots of silicon sealer all around I pushed the bowl in and seated it and left it with a weight on it for a day. The last job was to fit a wood block so that the drain, when connected, pulled slightly straight down on the dog bowl/ new drain. I't been fine for 2 years now.

I used Caravan Panels at Preston for a shower tray last year and whilst the product was excellent, the customer service was abysmal. The guy kept telling me that he had sent the piece by TNT and when I asked for the tracking number he told me they didn't issue them anymore!?! I eventually told him I would collect it on a certain day which he agreed to and when I arrived a day early he said that TNT weren't going to return it till tomorrow. I quite surprised the next day to find he was open and on site - his premises are based in some out of the way farm buildings - and the shower tray was there albeit a little warm as I think it had just come out of the mould, he then offered to cut the drain hole and off I went (back to Cambridge)(Luckily I fitted the trip in with some business I had to do in that area)

Sorry to heasr of your poor customer service. I cannot say the same as mine was excellent. The young lady in the office advised me by e mail when the tray was ready and we arranged a date for my collection. On arrival it was ready to go, and I was on the road again within 30 minutes.

I agree it is a small family firm in the back of beyond, but again I am willing to support local UK Companies as without them, we are all dependent on the big boys, who do not care a toss.
