Thanks for all the comments and advice - I feel thoroughly educated in all things tyre related :woohoo:
I still intend to have the van weighed, purely for my own peace of mind (and to check my calculations) but it does appear that I have been running with the tyre pressures set lower than they should have been.
Cheers

personally I would recommend having the van weighed at least once as it gives you a base line to work from, the MIRO is unreliable in determining how much user payload you actually have, things like gas bottles ,battery cables ect may not be part of the original calculations and this eats away at your payload.
you can either weigh it empty [with basic kit on board] and then weigh everything you put in, or put everything in and weigh it to check how close you are to the MTPLM, either way remember if you are only 1kg overweight it is still an offence.

Excellent post Colin.
Time for another caravan maybe :silly:
thanks DD but I'm far too busy mate, the books full so to speak, 2 bikes on the go, boat only half built [timber is unbelieveably expensive these days]. :woohoo: and doing all the landscaping in my daughters huge garden :S.
thought retirement was supposed to be easy,   by the time I got round to doing a van [would have to be a really old one] worth saving I fear I would be too old to use it :eek:hmy:

...........that is a result as far as I am concerned and thank you for the feed back.
Many people who have received advice on this forum don't bother!

Further reading from the Caravan Club on this topic .....see appendix 3

One of the easiest things to do as a caravanner is to exceed its MTPLM...........you may get a surprise if you take your caravan to the weighbridge with all your normal gear loaded!

........I see from another topic on this forum that you have ambitions to take your caravan to the continent.
You should know that obtaining your size of tyre for a caravan over there is virtually impossible and you should bear this fact in mind........see appendix 10 of above Caravan Club leaflet.

A very useful tyre guide Gafferbill - thanks for pointing it out.
Who knew something as simple as 2 tyres on the van could cause so much debate
