hi all, got the feel good factor today.

i had posted about my bathroom sink being cracked and the strainer and waste pipe had parted with the sink bowl.

i priced a replacement at local dealers and they quoted £154.

wow, so i thought i would add the post to see if there was any other way this could be done. lots of you gave good advice, and read caravans really made me think about it. they suggested getting an oversize washer type of thing and covering the hole with it and then attaching the drain unit. well, today i went to the local plumb centre and bought a pack of five plastic washers 90mm diameter with a 50mm centre, all for £3.40. as soon as i seen them i could picture the way they would do the job.

back home and i took one of the washers and run a bead of waterproof no nails around the edge, then i placed it over the offending hole in the sink. once it had set, i then stripped my drain by removing the screw and place the strainer along with the rubber seal down onto the affixed washer, then i attached the wast pipe to the external one and held it up underneath to meet the underside of the hole. fixed the screw down through the top and hand tightened it up, then the big moment, put the plug in and filled the sink, opened the doors below and then pulled plug. whoosh, water running as it should down through the waste to the external point, not one drip of water coming from the odd job, gid stuff.

just shows you, dont always dash out and replace things, sometimes a wee bit ingenuity can get you there, big cheers to read caravans for the pointer.

heres the finished work, will do for me :)

good post,i had cracking round my drain hole in the shower.this is caused by the faulty design location of the drain.it has not full support.as someone stands on it in the right place it cracks.the drain being at the front of the toilet does not help matters.rather than remove the shower for repair i came up with the idea to fit a larger drain fitting ie.3 inch across the top.after removal and adding more support on the underside i fitted the new drain fitting, sealing as i went.using a reducer for the outside plastic pipes on the underside.hope this helps others.

thanks bob.
Hi MacHighlander. I've been reading and re-reading both your posts to try an understand how you fixed your sink as I have a similar issue with my bathroom sink in my Coachman. Near the end of the season last year, I went to push the plug into the sink and there was that sickening crack you dread hearing followed by a load of water everywhere. What has happened is that the plug, waste and about 1" of plastic surrounding it have broken away. Its a fairly clean break and I have also been wondering how I can undertake a repair. I have not even investigated a replacement sink as the van 10 years old and the sink appears to be part of a vanity unit which just makes me think it will cost
