My wife three kids and dog will be touring devon and cornwall this August and would like some feedback on Godrevy Park(Cornwall)cc site, Merrose Farm (Cornwall) cc site, Looe (Cornwall) cc site, Ramslade (Devon) cc site, Minnows (Devon)cc site and Brocksmoor Hotel, Widemouth, Bude cc certified location site.

Hi Richard - the best site we've stayed at when the kids were younger was a lovely CL about a mile from Widemouth Bay - Quinceborough Farm, run by Pat & Guy Rowlands. No hook up & pretty basic facilities, but it does have a S/Pool, tennis court & table tennis, and Pat used to keep dozens of rare birds which the kids would feed each morning, plus a pot-bellied pig, goats & sheep. Not listed any more in the book due to some inconsiderate vanners letting them down, but they might still let you stay. their number's available from D/Enqs. Happy Christmas!

Hi Richy, Merrose Farm is a cracking site. Good choice of pitches but the ones high up to your left as you go in are the best. Not only are the pitches excellent and close to the shower block but the play area is up there as well. The site is in a lovely location. The only downside is that being on a penisula it's a bit of a jaunt if you want to go anywhere else. Incidentally, we,re off to two of your favourites in August, Pembrey and Freshwater. Merry Xmas. Both Godrevy Park and Merrose Farm are excellent sites to the usual high standards. You can walk from GP through huge sand dunes on to an enormous surfing beach. There's also a park-and-ride train service to St Ives, which is the best way to visit. You can get on to the coast path from MF, and you can catch a ferry up the river to Truro and back. Both sites will be very busy, so book early. Graham

We went Merrose Farm late August 2004. Great site in a great area. Several beaches close. More gentle coast than futher north thus ideal for smaller children and toddlers. Lots of coastal pathways some accessible from site. Many interesting creek walks. No very many pubs though if this is your scene. St Mawes is a lovely seaside town about 4/5 miles away and from there Falmouth is just a ferry boat away with shopping and sea faring interest etc. Several noted gardens are situated close by. Because the Rosedale peninsular is fairly inaccessible the locality is quiet and gentle and not as overun as some Cornish parts can be. The whole area is beautiful though with many secluded villages, coves, beaches etc.

The site is very good with exceptionally helful wardens. Best pitches (we thought) were on the hardstandings as many in the centre parkland tend to become surrounded.... Good dog walk.

Go to Merrose and enjoy, you will not be disappointed.

hi, please take care when choosing your site as a lot of sites in devon that take dogs all year do not take them in july and august we had this problem last year

Minnows is a good stop-over on the way down south and is a very pleasant site for a 3 day stop as the walks along the canal are enjoyable and the site is so well kept. They offer van storage which we used for 5 days and it was v reasonable and in a secure compound. I wouldn't recommend it for a full holiday as there are more interesting places in an hour's drive. There is a bit of road noise, which varies according to pitch location.

Whilst we were stopping at Merrose Farm a couple of years ago,we decided also to have a look at another site nearer to St.Mawes by the name of Trethem Mill ( not a club site ).We were really impressed--not too big/ and excellent toilet facilities/ family run/ beautiful landscaping as well.AND we were amazed to see that their prices compared favourably with Club prices.They have a web site

www.trethem.com which is worth a look.Go & see it when you are down there for future reference.
