Any suggestions anyone? We are likely to be driving from Burgundy (probably St Boil or thereabouts)on the first Saturday in July. I know it's a 6 hour drive solo, so will probably be 8 hours with a caravan on the back - anyway, a long day! So we won't get to Pas de Calais until after 6pm and need to get a train at about 9am on the Sunday morning. We have stayed at Chateau Gandspette before, but it is expensive for a one-night stopover. Does anyone have any other recommendations? We don't need much in the way of facilities - clean wash block and "on-scary" environment (we once made the mistake of using a site in Calais, which was the holiday base for the French equivalant of DSS!

La Bien Assise is only about 10 - 15 mins from tunnell although wont be much cheaper if at all than Gandspette. It does however have good toilet block and also take-away / restaurant/ bar which might be handy if you are not getting there til tea time.

We used one in Boulogne for the same reason a couple of years back. It certainly was not the best and had mostly static vans on it, but it did the job for a single short night.

Municipal site at Watten, very close to Gandspette. Try to google it

A website is not listed in the Caravan Club book - which it usually does if a site has one. Nor does the Tourist Info office (http://www.watten.fr/spip.php?article195) list a website. Put your best French accent on, and try ringing them perhaps? Or do it the old-fashioned way and write them a letter, using one of the translation sites to help out - we did once, and it worked a treat! We had a letter back in just a few days, confirming our booking.

I have used that site a couple of times,it has some statics on that I think are used for weekends by folk who live in Calais. It is a nice site for a stopover and is next to the canal. There are two toilet blocks only one with hot showers.

Enjoy your stay and good luck the owners have very very little English but are a lovely couple. He will pop down on his bike for a chat so polish up on the school French. There is a Champion in the village

Not everyone's choice and probably won't appeal to those that like Grandspette. We loved it and is our first choice as our 'docking point' for returning to England. It is quite basic, terraced, very rural and open which makes it windswept, but with a lovely view of the Channel, clean toilets and showers and a quiet road you can walk along and join coastal paths. Very close to Cap Blanc Nez, either walk or drive and you are a short drive from Calais.
