We want to spend a week with family in 2007 as part of our holiday. with 3 "new" grandchildren within the last 6 months we don't want to travel more than 3 hours from Calais. We were thinking of them hiring a cottage, gite, mobile home, static, whatever either on or near a site which we could go to. At least we could then "escape" if it all gets too much! The coast might be nice but anywhere in France considered.

Any suggestions of sites locations, where to look for the other accommodation will be gratefully listened to

I did post a reply David. It looks like it's been removed, for reasons unknown. Possibly the fact that I unashamedly made a reference to our business here.

Being that this is a caravanning forum, and given that I'm in a position to offer decent quality accommodation whether camping, caravanning, gites or B&B, I would hope that there'd be a level of sense applied. Apparently not. Sorry to have offended anyone.

If anyone's interested in what we have to offer, please Google us under Le Chant d'Oiseau. Good luck all of you, and enjoy your holidays wherever you end up.

Au Revoir.

Hi David, I was just about to reply with a recomendation for Le Chant d'Oiseau, and up popped Stuart himself! Ok, if the forum rules forbid him advertising the site himself, I'll do it! We stayed at the site in September this year. Depending on what you want from a site, this one is currently our number one best site of the year,BUT, if you want clubhouse and disco every night, then go elsewhere. If it's peace and quiet in abundance, this is the place for you. We've been caravanning for over 40 years, so are fairly well qualified in site judgment. Also, when was the last time you were welcomed on site with tea anb cakes, by the site owners? Every time at Stu and Syb's! It's a magic place, go and try it. Emmerson

Thanks for your comments. We are now reconsidering. spoke to stuart last evening and although more than 3 hours it is an easy run on french autoroutes and we can all make our own way. Also Saumur is one of my favourite areas.
