Does anyone have a Skoda Octavia Scout?

What is it like to tow with? What do you tow?

What is the fuel economy like?

Let me know.

Thanks

I don't tow with a Scout, but do tow with a vRS 170 TDi which is great.

Have a look at www.briskoda.net i'm sure someone there can help.

Octavia's are good cars, but a bit light for towing a caravan. I struglled to get a light enough modern caravan to match my Ford Mondeo, which is a much bigger car. Note also, take the advise about www.broskoda.net with caution. I use to belong and a less friendly forum you couldn't find. Disagree with a moderator once and get a life ban!

Have Skoda 2.0 140 bhp dsg 2 Elegance, tow Coachman 460/2 1350 klg but lower it to 1324 klg as ideal weight. Tows like a dream and have got around 28/30 towing. Over 30000 miles and done around 6000 miles towing the average has worked out at 42 mpg, which i think is good. Re Briskoda web site , i go on it dailey the guy's out there are very helpful and very technical .

For some raeson the quoted kerbweight in the Skoda brochure of the Scout isn 100kg less than the equivalent 4 wd estate, which is puzzling as the Scout has all the spec of the 4wd estate plus other bits. There was a post some while back where someone weighed their Scout and found it to be quite a bit heavier than the brochure. When I contacted Skoda I received a condescending reply.

This issue has come up before. It appears that the brochures for the Scout were printed before the standard level of equipment for the Scout for the UK market was fuly defined. The figure in the brochure is therefore for the base vehicle without any options. Kerbweights in brochures are only meant to be a guideline anyway and cannot be used as an accurate indicator of what the actual kerbweight of any particular car is.

As Other Clive said the brochures for the Octavia are innaccurate. I have pointed this out on more than one occasion to Skoda but the new brochure never has the correct info. I have weighed my Octavia Scout with 75kg driver (me!) and a nearly full fuel tank and fixed towbar fitted. It weighed in at 1650kg. The vehicle V5 states a mass of 1605kg.

As for towing and fuel consumption here are the figures: 43mpg solo and 29mpg towing my Lunar Quasar 462 (1250kg). It tows with ease. Solo driving is excellent - very stable, well equipped and it is a refined cruiser. It has been very reliable since I got it in March 2008. Hope this helps.

By the way, for the purpose of determining what you may or may not drive with a post-1997 licence, the kerbweight entry in the V5 takes precedence over actual weight that you may have had measured on a weighbridge. If there is a serious discrepancy, you need to have the V5 revised.
