Hey, I am very interested in starting out but only have a very small car(VW Lupo) and can only tow up to 800kg. I have been looking at an Compass Echo 340 (585kg). Can anyone give me any advice on the outfit or other recommended c'vans?? and what difficulties that I may encounter?!

I know that this is a tall order but I would be very greatful of any help!!

Many thanks in advance!!.

Eriba Puck?

New specs here

but there are serviceable ones up to 40 years old - they come up on ebay (usual warnings apply). They survive so well because of their unique tubular steel frame construction, and the pop-top means a lower roof height and better towing.

There is no 'cooler' caravan - but then I am biased as an owner of a larger (but still compact) Eriba ;-)

Consider a pop-top or folder, as these may be easier to tow behind a small car. Less windage and lower centre of gravity are aspects well worth considering.

I have to agree with the Oldfogey on this one. but there is another choice.

Consider a different car. If you have the budget then a bigger car will give you more choice.

Good luck with the selection.

Thank you, I am considering changing my car, but still want a small ish one. I am considering a Polo or a 206 with either 1.6 pertol(206) or 1.9 dieasl(polo) what would you recommend. Or are there any alternatives that you would suggest?

Ian,

I strongly agree with Alan - an Eriba Puck (pop-top) would be my first choice - unladen weight around 500kg, max 700 kg.

Why an Eriba? Easy to tow, build quality (best quality, least defects in 2005 caravan club reliability survey), resale value, people smile when they see one go past.

Another alternative would be the Tabbert T@B, similar weights.

Hi,

I have a 1995 2 berth Bailey Beachcomber Club 350/2 that weighs just 650kg (unladen) 800kg max (laden). and it has all the features one would expect in a modern tourer. As regards to choice, I guess you are pretty limited but just trawl the internet, Iam sure you will find something suitable.

Regards Andrew
