Small Electric Kettle

We have a cordless electric kettle in the van which is 1.7 ltr, 1 kw and requires a minimum level of water of 0.5 ltr. As we only use the kettle to boil water for drinks for the 2 of us at 0.2 ltr per cup then the kettle took up weight and space. We have now purchased a smaller cordless kettle which is 0.8 ltr at 1 kw. It can even boil a very small amount of water that just covers the bottom, if you felt you needed just a small amount !

Here is the kettle which we got from Boots on line. The interesting part, on reading the user guide, is that you should switch off at the wall before lifting the kettle off its base. Our van doesn't have switches on any of its 13 amp sockets. 😉 The literature says the kettle is also supplied to hotels and I don't think guests read the manuals or even switch off at the wall. We certainly don't with our cordless kettle at home. What do other people do with their cordless kettles?

We bought a small kettle in our 2nd year of Caravanning when we were worried about weights etc. 1 liter, but only 650 watts, took ages, better with a magnifying glass and a dull day. So went back to the 1 1/2 liter and 1500 watts. Just got to watch the wife if she is drying her hair and putting the kettle on if we are on 10 amps.

We are quite the opposite. Fill the teapot then you can have more. Tastes far better from the pot.

Permanently 'live' -- home and in the van, -- otherwise defeats the object of cordless!

We have one with the smaller wattage which does take some time to boil, however on many sites in Europe this is essential. On a site in Lecco on Lake Como we unknowlngly only had 3 amp, and when the wife put the kettle on it kept blowing, it was only when I realised that the ALDE heating was still switched on, and I turned it off that we could have a nice cuppa tea. Fortunately I was able to switch it back on at our terminal when it tripped, without having to go to the office as on some sites.

........they are potentially dangerous as are toasters.
They only really became really safe with the widespread use os residual current circuit breakers. The warning to switch off wil be to cover the makers backside!
