Well, we've finally got snow
smiley-yell.gif
. Not a huge amount - less than an inch, but enough to make me want to stay indoors. At least it's not so cold now.

My husband is an HGV driver and has just started a new job, he's doing courses all this week so is not out on the road, to my (and his) immense relief. When we had the really bad snow last winter, he was stuck out in his lorry for about 20 hours one day - no gritters, police, emergency vehicles to be seen. It's all very well the police saying don't go out unless you have to, but if lorry drivers don't go and attempt their deliveries there'd be no food in the shops! And it's not like their employers say "don't go out today lads, the conditions are dangerous and we'd be too worried about your safety!!".

My friend was in Oldham yesterday afternoon, giving a training session (only half the people got there) and set off to get home at 2.00 pm. She got to the M606 towards Bradford at just after 3.00 pm (a really good time) and it then took her 6 hours to get home to Burley in Wharfedale - about eleven miles! The advice not to go out if there's snow is very sensible for car drivers - and then that leaves delivery drivers with clearer roads to get to their destinations if they absolutely have to go out and about. She should have cancelled the course the day before - and admits that now!

The husband of friend (above) has been stopped by police in Leeds this morning for driving with snow on his roof, and given three points and a fine for a 'driving hazard'!

Oh dear! Still, they're right, it could well be a hazard - if he had to stop suddenly the snow could slide down the windscreen.

My husband says the number of people he sees on the roads who have only used their wipers (or a credit card!) to clear a tiny bit of the windscreen is absolutely frightening. They must be total idiots.

Good.
It sould happen to more drivers, I've seen idiots this morning looking through dinner plate sized area of windscreens in cars covered in snow. It's easy to make up a snow cover and tie it over the car. If you need to go out, pull it off with all the snow and your windows are clear and the wipers and washer work and the snow hasn't blown in the front grill.
Leave all the vehicle collected snow at home rather than dump tons more on roads
