Sooty Cadac

Hi. I have a Cadac Eazi chef and it seems to soot up quite badly. Even the grill plate is black underneath. I run on propane. Does anyone have the same problem and know a solution apart from weigh it in for scrap?

Hello Dan,

Assuming the appliance is specified for Propane, and that the gas is supplied at the correct pressure (Regulator) then sooting strongly points to to a problem with mixing the gas and air in the venturi.

This is likely to be blockage (insect)of dirt in or around the injector.

Cleaning the venturi and burner in warm soapy water and using a nylon bottle brush may help Do not use a wire brush as this may damage the injector assembly.

Rinse and dry the parts (in an electric fan oven at low setting about 75C works well)

If any any doubt refer the cleaning to a gas fitter.

I spoke to a friend who had the same problem. He contacted cadac who advised him to do the following. Check inside the steel stem to see if the plastic baffle has melted and if so take off the stem and remove the damaged baffle. He reckons thats exactly what he did and it solved the problem.

My blue plastic baffle has also melted, i removed it and the problem is worse than ever. I can replace it if necessary and return to store before warranty expires.

Soot is definately down to melting of the blue plastic baffle that sits inside the stem. I spoke to Cadac and they sent me out a new one, no questions asked. Took all of 24 hours to arrive. Cracking service. They did also advise that removing it altogether solves the problem although heat will be reduced slightly without it.

Thanks for that Carl. I will try ringing them. I did send them an email last night but received an automated reply in dutch. My only concern regading the baffle is that if it's melted once surely it will melt again? And I have tried with it removed and it now looks like it's been running on coal.

Hello Carl,

The sooting in this case may well be down to the baffle that has been discussed, but sooting can be caused by other things also.
