Ok could be your disc reader is mucky and needs a clean, or its a duff disc and the language the disc is written in the disc reader does not like. OR on the down side it could be your disc drive is on its was out.

Try cleaning the disc drive as it may have some dust in it, i have a little vaccum thingy that id mine with. you could use a cotton bud but it might leave residue.

Try a different disc.

One thing just thought of this happen to me some months ago, i pull the comp out to find the jack had slightly come out, push it back in and it worked.

Regards Diane

You can buy CD/DVD cleaners, Plotter. They take the form of a CD disk and may have brushes or polishing agents impregnated onto them. They often come with instructions, usually the more expensive, the better they are.

The gap year chap. Something about not wanting to export them because they were to good for instant coffee. Dare say he's handed to whole impetus over to the "Tea" brigade.

The world of commodities, who can figure that out?

Just a shot in the dark here, Plotter. You said it only started when you were alerted that it needed the updates, so have you updated? Or, if you want, there are plenty of free to download media players on the net. Why not try using one of them, at least you will have eliminated one suspect.

Real media player is a big player and can be trusted, Plotter.

http://www.real.player-download.net/uk/
I haven't tried this player from Adobe, but as it is an Adobe product, can be trusted too.

I would favour The Real player as I know it is A. free and B. compatible with windows.

Hope this helps.

Hi Plotter

If you feel it is the update that caused your problem, could you not do a 'Restore' to a date before the update?

I think it's your computer, Plotter. That or a visit to Spec Savers looms. Don't be afraid of system restore, it will guide you through the whole process and can be used to cure many ills. Try and make sure you choose your restore time before you started to have problems. I won't effect any of your settings/email/documents etc so is worth a try. I would agree with Diane about downloading stuff from the net, it could contain virus's but if you do it from a reputable site, such as the one I gave you, it should be fine. Speaking of which, have you run your anti virus software recently?
