Starting to plan next years trip and fancy a trip to Spain and Portugal. Plymouth to Santander then down to Malaga through Madrid. On to Seville then up to Lisbon before heading back to Santander and back home. Mid April until the end of June.
Any info on campsites along the route would be very welcome. Also anyone who has done this trip and can pass on any advice ?

Many thanks

Hi Earlier this year we did Morocco with the caravan,we travelled to portsmouth for the Santander ferry,Travelled across spain via Burgos.
& Aranjueze international just south of Madrid down to Algercirus We purchased the santander ferry ticket together with 7 camping cheques from the CC & got a very favourable deal. Its cheaper to buy the cheques with the ferry ticket rather than the ferry alone
& even if you do not use them you can sell them easily on here or ebay.
How ever It actually atually works out about £200 dearer than Dover/Dunkerque/Calaise ferry & driving down through franceSpain allowing for 5 night stops. Its actually 600+ miles across Spain from Santander to Malaga so you wold still need a couple of night stops
Personaly as we are within 50 miles of Dover its the way I will do it next time
Keep a lookout for the Norfolk Line /DFDS discount code usually around January Febuary & warning usually found on Here & several other caravaning websites. This year Dover Dunkerque Car & caravan was £58 return

If you are CC members then the ferry and camping cheque booking is usually a good deal. Also their CC Europe Spain site guide volume will show you plenty of choice of sites at that time of year. Be aware though that many Spanish sites have a charging structure which starts high for 1 to 2 or 4 nights, the drops quite sharply for a longer stay and progressively lower for even longer stays. This means a series on 'overnights' can run up the total site fee quite a lot. The good news is that the autopistas and autovias are generally very good and not overcrowded unless round the major cities, so it's fairly easy to get a good distance in each day. Some sections are toll, but not as expensive as in France. Supermarkets do not gernerally have filling stations, so there is not much differnece in fuel prices although the autovias may be a little higher. On some sections it can be quite a distance between services so it's not a bad idea to fill the tank at half rather than quarter full.
On your route there are sites at Burgos, and Aranda north of Madrid. A place worth a day or so stay is Merida with Roman theatre and ampitheatre in cluding a chariot race track - unfortunately no longer in use !
Sites with chalets to let ( which seems to be most of them these days) and near the cities may attract groups of young folk at weekends who often tend to 'party' until quite late.
Hope this is helpful and that you have a great trip

We have crossed Spain quite a few times from the French border down to Andalucia via Madrid, Cordoba and Seville and I have described the route we take and the night halts here .

Although your plans are not quite the same you might find it useful particularly avoiding Madrids inner ring roads by adding a few miles on and taking the M50. BTW you might find central Spain very cold in April with a chance of snow.
