No, nothing to do with Monty Python............

Would any forum members who see spam or adverts anywhere on the website including the news, blogs, advice etc please alert moderators if we haven't noticed them or removed them.
I don't mean the odd advert to sell an awning slipped into a genuine forum members comments but adverts containing clickable links to obtain medication, goods or services of a dubious nature

which are more often than not posted by foreign criminals trying to obtain money from the unwary internet user. I need hardly tell you but don't click on the links!
There is an email link for Damian in Forum Etiquette or a simple 'FAO Mods' in this section of the forum would do the trick. We have very effective methods with which to deal with spammers even though the continue to try - bless. We quite enjoy getting rid of them to tell the truth

I think this should be a sticky too.
What Parksy has written is very important, especially with regard to criminal activity to get you to click on their sites.
With the newly available tools for the Moderators we now have all the things we lacked in the past and can prevent these people from preying on you by denying them access to the site.

Over the last few days the Mod team have identified and banned a huge number of such accounts, many more than we even thought were around.

If you do see a post which should not be there please alert us via the link in Etiquette as we are not at the computer 24/7 but will take action as soon as possible.

We now check the new additions to the user database on a very regular basis so hopefully we can keep on top of the problem and prevent it becoming a problem for users.

Or alternatively, 'Flag As Offensive' - the post will immediately disappear, and the mods can look at it at their leisure, and remove/ban as required.

Hi

Just checking = there appears to be a few adverts - Unicef, Thomas & Friends, an advert for men's clothes, What Car, Earth Share, Lotto, are they legit adverts?

The adverts which appear as you enter the site, the top banner and side adverts are under the control of Haymarket and are paid adverts.
The only parts of the site the Moderators have access to are the Forum and certain parts of the user database,
It is advertising within the forum which is not allowed as per the Forum Etiquette.

Hi Damian

Have the adverts always been on this new site? Maybe my mind is going because I don't seem to remember seeing them before.

Maybe I need to start taking some ginkgo biloba.

Hello Lisa,
Yes, it was a decision taken by Haymarket to part fund the new site and has been commented on quite soon after they appeared.
