Spare wheel retainer

Anyone got information with the method of securing the spare wheel in the front locker of a early 90,s Abbey GTS (same front GRP panel as the spectrum)..both LPG bottles are held in place by straps and buckles..maybe the same for spare wheel ?.Thanks Gary

We have only one gas bottle and use the strap from the other gas bottle holder to go through the wheel: then a fair amount of wedging with all the other junk essential caravan equipment.

Cheers for the idea Mel..I don't intend using both bottles myself ..the caravan has two locker doors and not being very good at limbo dancing it can be a challenge putting bottles in and hopefully the new spare will without doubt will never be needed..usually only required when absent 👌Gary

When I had an Alko wheel carrier I removed it from the caravan and carried the spare in the caravan. It would lay in the door opening ready for easy use if required. Safer too when travelling in Europe. Then when on site depending on the caravan it would go under the caravan chained to the chassis, or under a fixed bed. My last van, a Swift had its wheel in the front locker and was retained with one of these. The spare was a steel wheel.

Is there a recess for the spare wheel as on our 2005 Lunar the spare wheel was in the front locker and there was a recess for the wheel?

Yes Buckman there is .. I'm wondering what holds the wheel in position and keeps it secure,there are two cleats on the left and right hand side used to secure the gas bottles but a lack of bracket or what ever for the wheel or indeed any evidence of prior fittings..Once in the place Thier is a dedicated space for the wheel

Not sure but there may have been a strap to keep it in position. However even if you brake extremely hard, the chances of it doing any damage are probably minimal.

Put it in the bottom of the wardrobe - on my van it's a useless space anyway so that may help

A lot depends on the location of the wardrobe as a spare wheel weighs about 15kg and can affect nose weight it placed incorrectly.

I'd then go for thin ratched style strap riveted or screwed in the original place - but thats just me

I think an easy solution would be a strap and retaining clips:-
