Hi

When checking my spare wheel today i noticed it was a different sized tyre from those on my van. The ones on my van are 175/13 whearas the spare is 165/65/13 can i fit this in an emergency or is it as i suspect the wrong spare for the van ?

thanks

Hi Ross,

The standard 175 SR13 tyres fitted to your caravan are actually 80 section aspect ratio (tall profile), and the spare is a 165 / 65 section (medium profile and different width) - so it will be very different in diameter.

The different tyre width (165 versus 175) also means that the tyre diameter is different.

Since a caravan doesn't have driven wheels you could argue that tyre size doesn't matter, but with such a mismatch - I'd say no and buy a new 175/80 SR13 tyre.

I agree with Rob, get the proper tyre. I have to ask if the spare was supplied by the manufacturer, or provided by a previous owner. If the former then somebody needs to check it out, if the latter then an owner did not really understand what they were doing. As far as I am aware there is no system for 'get you home' spares for caravans as yet, and even if there were, I would be sceptical.
