SsangYong Korando tow test

I bought the Ssangyong 2.2 se last October in advance of picking up our new Elddis Affinity 550 . The Korando tows the 1495kg van ok , no problems towing except it's not worth using more than 5th gear as using 6th gear unless on a flat road or downhill will probably strain the gearbox ( My thoughts ) Prior to buying the car , I read all the reviews prior to test driving and thought is this the car for Me ? And yes it is , it tows well and drives well solo and the steering is ok for Me . The gearbox is a little notchy but once warmed up isn't as bad . There's plenty of room in the back even when the front seats are in there rearmost position and the rear seats recline for a nice sleep . The radio CD player is decent , the car is comfortable and loads of space with the rear seats layer flat . Why did I pick this car ? Ok , looking at all the other makers cars which are very good and possibly drive better than the Ssangyong, I was not prepared to pay 10k extra for all the bells and whistles that I didn't need to get the high BHP engine . I will say , I haven't test driven the oppositions cars but 10k for a few extras ! Come on .
A very happy Ssangyong owner and not and certainly not working for or with them .

Hi Ray , I have found the van to tow fine , no twitching , yet I haven't been in a situation where I have had to do ( like on the quick lane change ) a rapid manoeuvre . I am used though to doing something similar, but solo , accelerate move out to overtake and it's not keen on the White lines , it shimmys a bit . Once used to it , it's no problem, but having ridden motorbikes for 40 yrs it's pretty similar . It is a good value car and quite powerful @ 177 BHP , but use it like a sports car , unless You know what to expect You could get into difficulties. It isn't a sports car though and should be treated so . It does for Me what I expected and am happy .
