St Malo Ferry

We are thinking of taking our first overseas trip in the van and have been advised to try the Vendee.

The best sailing appears to be to St Malo, but we've been surprised at the cost quoted online, about 700 to 800 pounds return for the ferry.

Any ideas regarding cheaper options welcome.

Thanks

Poole to Cherbourg should be a lot cheaper and perhaps only two hours extra driving. Depends when you go - Condor Ferries had a good deal this year May to September, sailing on a Sunday there and back with caravan -

Wherever we go in France we always sail Norfolk Lines to Dunkirk, a) because its the cheapest crossing b) its short (1hr 40min) which is a major consideration as we take our dogs,c)because I enjoy driving in France.

We went solo to St Malo a couple of years ago, and while the outgoing overnight was OK, I found the homeward trip very boring. I wouldn't do it again.

We ended a long French tour in the Vendee once, then drove back to Dunkirk in one day, which I thoroughly enjoyed, although the tolls were a little expensive.
